Indiana State Player Involved in Fight

One member of Sycamore basketball team seriously hurt--and also quite seriously injured is the brother of one of the Sycamore players, and a player Indiana State had recruited who is now at juco.

Incident happened more than two weeks ago and is now just being mentioned, no other report of this at all between Aug. 30 and now.

"Police said Maxie hit Zach Odum in the head, knocking him unconscious.
Surgery was required to remove parts of Odum's skull and a plate was inserted in his head.
Then, Clawson reportedly hit Joshua Crawford, a member of the ISU men's
basketball team. Crawford's jaw was broken and had to be wired shut."

"The Aug. 30 incident occurred over a period of time as a running verbal
battle between two groups, Mercier said. Several other people were pushing
and shoving among the groups, but it was Clawson and Maxie who allegedly
caused serious injuries with their fists, he said.

???Their injuries were pretty extreme,??? Mercier said of the alleged victims as to
why criminal charges were pursued only against Clawson and Maxie. ???In a
situation like this where the injuries were extreme, that??™s what makes it serious.???

Investigators talked to more than 20 people, he said. The hospitalization of
both Crawford and Odom also slowed the investigation."
