Gavin Sullivan and Jim Rochford as well as several others, are organizing and running the area's first Fall basketball league at this top level.
I went down to the RiverPlex on Sunday and scoped out the happenings, and talked with a couple of those running the event...
There were about 80 kids from Peoria, Bloomington, many other surrounding schools, and even as far away as Champaign working out, as the first week entailed just the preliminaries and talent evaluations....in order for the teams to have a good blend of similarly matched talent while trying to allow some kids from same schools together.
I know a lot of the local kids and asked about a few others, so I can attest that many of the top high school (and even a couple junior high kids) basketball players are involved.
The league runs every Sunday from now until end of October, and the real games begin (on all three courts at the RiverPlex) next Sunday.
The times for the games vary from week to week, but I have a schedule and can let you know....
Next week starts at 2:30 (Sunday Sept. 20)
I plan to watch the games and give a report, privately....and hopefully we can get some of the Irish Hoops guys to give us even more details!
