  • An unusual take on Michael Jordan

    FWIW-
As the Hall of Fame opened its doors to Michael Jordan, the NBA's greatest player clung bitterly to the past.

Agreed! This was painful to watch. Everything I've ever heard (off the record) and suspected about MJ was proven out in this speech. I felt embarrassed for him. Whichever one of his "handlers" that allowed him to speak "off the cuff" and without a prepared speech should be fired.

MJ came across as bitter, petty, egotistical, and VERY insecure. While every other acceptance speech came across as a "10" -- gracious, professional, classy, emotional -- MJ's came a cross as a BIG goose egg "0"!

I feel sorry for MJ; it is obvious that he is growing older, lonelier, unfulfilled, and unhappier every day.

Don't feel sorry for MJ. He's kind of d-bag. The only part of the speech that was cool was when he was talking about Pip

But would Michael Jordan ever have been that great if he wasn't the way that he is?

        I think not.

          or

he realizes he can get away with calling people out during a Hall of Fame speech under the guise of being the uber competitive guy.

I'm curious to see what Kobe's speech will be like down the road lol.

This ridiculous column says the NBA should restrict who wears #23 anywhere in the entire NBA..and only superstars should be able to wear it...
              gimme a break....

I don't think its that ridiculous... Pat Riley retired it and hung it from the rafters in Miami so that "every play that plays for Miami see's it and know what they need to strive for in their own game."

Edit: I just realized the column said it would only let "superstars" where #23... that is stupid...

I enjoyed his speech. Much better than the usual acceptance speeches you hear.

I thought it was pretty balanced as far as being thankful to certain people (family, coaches, other legendary players) and the roasting of his detractors/motivators.

That speech was classless! You wouldn't think someone with six championship rings and more money than he knows what to do with would hold such a grudge, over ten years after the fact to boot!

It doesn't HAVE to be that way Veve.

Jordan vs. Russell One More Time

I doubt MJ takes them up on this offer. The risk of humiliation would be greater to him than the chance to make his favorite charity $100,000 richer. We'll have to wait and see......

The owner of the Utah Jazz's NBA Development League team wants to see Michael Jordan go 1-on-1 against Bryon Russell one more time.

I am in absolutely no way a fan of Favres but when that guy is on the field and is healthy he still is a top 10 QB in the NFL.

The only tarnish on his image is how he has the past two years acted in the off season but when you look at him on the field his image is still pretty good. Though his hit on Eugene Wilson in the pre season was absolute bush league.

But how he acted in the off season will have zero impact on his legacy.

He kind of bounced back a bit with me by making that Sears commercial. Absolutely hilarious.
