The following might be hard to believe, but it's true-
When a Bradley basketball player was accused by a woman of physical abuse because she claimed she was pushed and got a small cut on her lip, the player was arrested immediately, jailed, and prosecuted, despite the fact that the alleged victim asked for the charges to be dropped. In addition, the local newspaper named the player immediately and covered the story extensively, and demanded swift and severe punishment, and complained when the player was reinstated after an appropriate punishment and suspension. Also, the newspaper continued to refer to the criminal case for the next year every time the player made the news for any good reason. Also, the University administration took the case seriously, suspended the player immediately, and did their own thorough investigation.
Contrast that with the case in Little Rock, Arkansas-
On August 27, 3 University of Arkansas basketball players were accused of rape by a young woman, who claims she was held captive in a locked fraternity room, and raped repeatedly by the players. Despite her detailed description of this horrific crime, and the identification of the players, the state prosecutor refuses to file charges because he said there is no proof that the sexual relations weren't consensual!
Washington County deputy prosecutor Dustin Roberts said Wednesday the sexual acts "seemed consensual" and filed no charges against the players.
Also, the University's Chancellor immediately came to the defense of Coach John Pelphrey's program and the players. He said he has no plans to issue discipline, and plans to leave things to Coach Pelphrey, who he feels "is the man who is going to turn it around"-
"will handle this the appropriate way and that it will ultimately be resolved fairly and the right way."

The Police, and the State's attorney were careful not to identify the players involved, the University refuses to identify them, and the media is also careful not to name the players, so we don't know who they were! In fact, now 2 weeks after the alleged rape, the media is still refusing to name the players, and seems disinterested in getting to the truth in the story! Also, there has still been no announcement that Coach Pelphrey plans any discipline.--
This is not the only recent case of players getting into trouble. Coach Pelphrey has had to discipline other players. Patrick Beverley was suspended last fall, then quit the team. 2 starters, Jason Henry and Courtney Fortson, along with 2 reserve players were also suspended last season. Henry was dismissed last spring, and the 2 reserves also were dismissed. There were 2 recent DUI incidents, a former player (Beverley)who alleges that he had people writing term papers for him, questions about recruiting violations, and one of the worst APRs in the country that has resulted in NCAA penalties that reduced scholarships.
In fact, it appears the only Arkansas player who could be in trouble is Courtney Fortson, who was not one of the players accused of rape, but he is in trouble for something silly he jokingly said on his twitter page.-
Meanwhile, the 18-year old female has hired her own lawyer and is still trying to get the case prosecuted. She claims the State Prosecutor is closely associated with the Arkansas Athletic Department and has a conflict of interest (he is the son-in-law of former longtime Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles). She wants a special prosecutor named.-
Meanwhile, the woman??™s lawyer said Friday that they may move forward with other actions after charges were not filed by the prosecutor??™s office.
???The victim and her family were obviously very surprised and disappointed by the decision of the Washington County Prosecutor??™s Office to not only refuse to file charges in this case, but also by their failure to conduct an independent and thorough investigation of their own,??? John D. Bass said in a written statement.
The family of the 18-year-old UA student is considering requesting the appointment of a special prosecutor because of a ???professional conflict,??? between Arkansas staff and the prosecutor??™s office, Bass said. In the statement, Bass identifies Washington County prosecutor John Threet as the son-in-law of former Arkansas athletics director Frank Broyles. Trainor, the UA spokesman, is identified as Threet??™s brother-in-law in Bass??™ statement.
???Another option would be the possibility of a civil suit involving some or all of the myriad of individuals and entities involved in the incident and investigation,??? Bass said. ???The family would like to thank everyone for respecting their privacy in this difficult time."
