Johnny Coy, who was a 2-sport star at Benton High School in St. joseph, Missouri, initially went to Arizona State on a basketball scholarship. He redshirted his freshman year at Arizona State, but then transferred to Wichita State on a basketball scholarship with the intention of playing both baseball and basketball. He was being counted on as a good outside shooter for Gregg Marshall's team, but yesterday he announced that he has decided that it's too difficult to play 2 sports, and he is dropping basketball to concentrate on baseball.
Coy was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 7th round out of high school, and will likely be able to make a lot more money playing pro baseball than pro basketball.
