  • Peoria ABA Franchise

I'm actually looking forward to the ABA franchise, mainly because Sergio Mc Clain is my favorite Illini player of all-time, but also because there are going to be quite a few local ties on the team it looks like. Here's a link to the most recent website update that lists the players coming back for a second tryout, which includes Michael Stewart who played for BU and five guys who played high school ball in Peoria.

Personally, I'm looking forward to going to a lot of games, maybe even getting season tickets, does anybody else share any excitement for this?

The ABA is crap, this team will be too, I could care less whether they play or not, which is good because they probably won't make it through a whole season..

Semi-Pro basketball just doesn't get me going, but I hope for the best for the franchise.

Nope. The new ABA just isn't a legitimate minor league. Let me know when the CBA or NBDL comes to town.

The ABA operation is a complete joke. It's run out of the CEO's basement, franchises have been sold for as little as $1, more than 50 franchises have folded the last 5 years, only 7 of the 32 teams played all their scheduled games this past season, three vice presidents have resigned in the last four months, and the league doesn't even keep stats because most of the teams can't afford the software....

I am waiting to see who makes the roster. They need to sign a couple former Bradley players. But so far, the players listed at their tryouts don't interest me much.

I wouldn't walk across my back alley to watch these guys play.

I will stand in line for hours to see these ABA guys before I will go watch minor league hockey or people who play poker as if they are experts, when everyone knows it basically all luck.
If they are good they will kick butt and draw well.

BTW--has anyone been to an ICC game?
I have, and I have even been to tough games against conference opponents over at Lorene Ramsey gym, and they still have as few as 50 people in attendance.
Surely if the Peoria ABA team has guys like Stewie, Sergio, and maybe get one or two more guys with local ties and if it doesn't play in Peoria, it won't play anywhere.
