  • Stat Comparison Sam M. vs. Drew N.

Most Bradley fans are quite familiar with Michigan State's fine guard Drew Neitzel, who just finished his career in 2008.

Here is a simple comparison of the stats for Drew and Sam Maniscalco..make what you want of it,
but Drew sure turned out to be a pretty good player. In fact he was an All American.

    Drew Neitzel:
    Freshman season - 33 games, 38% FG shooting, 32.7% 3-pt shooting, 65% on FT, 0.7 rpg, 2.9 apg, 3.5 ppg scoring
    Sophomore season-34 games, 41% FG shooting, 40.4% 3-pt shooting, 93% on FT, 2.0 rpg, 5.5 apg, 8.3 ppg scoring
Junior season -----35 games, 42% FG shooting, 41.2% 3-pt shooting, 87% on FT, 2.8 rpg, 4.0 apg, 18.1 ppg scoring
Senior season -----36 games, 40% FG shooting, 39.8% 3-pt shooting, 86% on FT, 2.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, 13.9 ppg scoring

    Sam Maniscalco:
    Freshman season - 38 games, 42% FG shooting, 36.7% 3-pt shooting, 73% on FT, 1.7 rpg, 3.0 apg, 7.7 ppg scoring
    Sophomore season-36 games, 41% FG shooting, 34.5% 3-pt shooting, 80% on FT, 1.8 rpg, 3.9 apg, 10.1 ppg scoring
Junior season ----- here are his summer exhibition stats...5 games, 17.4 ppg, 3 rpg, 3 apg

    Go BU!!

Very interesting comparison, Tornado. Both guards are long on "smarts" and work effort, with streaky good shooting. Both have found success without great athleticism (speed, quickness, vertical jump, etc.).

BU has had many players that fit this description through the years...players who without exception are beloved by the fans in spite of (maybe because of)their limitations (size or athleticism). It seems BU fans love the underdog, e.g. : Frank Sylvester, Trevor Trimpe, Mike Davis, Greg Smith, Carl Maniscalco, Heemskirk, etc.

It seems that to remain a viable program in the incredibly competitive recruiting markets that mid-major programs work in, you must recruit such players. One more reason to love mid-major b-ball!

nice thoughts, doug-- and I agree 100%...
I think the reason we see our coaches go after the unknowns and relatively unheralded players like Taylor Brown, Sean Harris, John Wilkins, Will Egolf, Eddren McCain, etc......is for exactly that reason......they have heart that might translate into performance that exceeds their known talent.
