I agree. I don't look at DePaul as a Big East team. They would fit better in the Horizon League. Maybe they could finish in the upper division then?

I agree completely. Not sure how he was "pandering" by making that statement. The team should be excited about any and every opportunity to play against another team, be it exhibition, non-conference, or Valley opponent. DePaul IS a Big East team. We should be looking at different combinations and getting a lot out of it. I'm not sure what is wrong with anything Les said there.

Pander, not sure I new the real meaning of it so I asked Webster
Pander = person who caters to base passions of others

Ok, as I see it DePaul would not renew a series with Bradley for what ever reason. Maybe they just did not like coming to P town, or maybe it is because they are with the Big Boys now and have to thumb their noses at us or maybe they are just embarrassed because they don't have a fan base like BU's and having more BU fans a their home game than their fans or just maybe they are scared of getting their butts beat. As for what ever their reasoning for not wanting to play us in the regular season then one has to ask why the hell we would be willing to play them behind closed doors as if they don't want anyone to know we are playing BU but we will use them for what ever gain we can get without the open shame and humiliation that BU could give us in a open game (regular season or exhibition)
I agree with B4L this pandering We stand more to gain in a open game, in front of the fans and knowing the out come! My opionion!

        • DePaul still won't play us in a real game. Nothing has changed.
So I see this as the next best thing. As a scrimmage, it will serve the purpose that early-season scrimmages are intended for, the cost of travel is minimal, and the competetion is much better than D2. And if Bradley didn't get this game, they would have been locked into just the one exhibition against Lewis.

All 343 Division I coaches say nice things about the teams they are scheduled to play. So does that mean in your eyes that every D1 coach panders?

I was under the impression B4L was referring to JL's quote since that's the part of my post that was quoted. I still fail to see how anything JL said would be considered "pandering" to DePaul.

Also, I didn't realize JL was directly responsible for the schedule.....I thought it was the AD that most people around here seem to blame for our schedule.

it is indeed a win-win situation...
since we can't host a 2nd open exhibition due to facilities under construction, then by going to play DePaul, there is absolutely NO expense on our part...and we may even be getting paid to come, but we get to measure up against a Big East team, and get to play a game that win-or-lose will benefit us.

                    • don't forget, that buried deep in that PJ Star story on the schedule is this comment...
"Les said Bradley still might add a game to its 11-game nonconference
schedule, released earlier this week. The open date is either Dec. 22 or 23,
between road games at Iowa State (Dec. 20) and Drake.
???We??™re continuing to look at some opportunities,??? Les said. ???For the right
situation, we could put a game there. If it??™s the right opponent, we??™d go on
the road, but that would give us three road games in a row. Or we could add
                      a home game.???

For the record I DO NOT like that Les feels he needs to kiss DePaul's or the Big East's @ss by making this comment. Thanks for the definition of pander OoB: "Pander = person who caters to base passions of others". IMO, that is exactly what Les is doing here. He's telling them what the want and expect to hear. "Oh, Oh, the Big East is SO great let's "see where we're at" .

Who's been kicking who's @ss these past several years?! I'm sorry, but I'd prefer Les highlight Bradley's dominance over the Big East teams instead of bowing down to kiss their "almighty" @ss. I ask: What would Dick Versace have said here?

Come on Jimmy! Let's start a little rivalry here! I'd rather hear: "Since they won't come here we're going to DePaul to try to help them turn their program around. I know the Big East hasn't really provided us with much competition lately but we still think we can help our guys by once again showing them that they are just as good as the teams in this constantly over-hyped conference.

I'm sorry if this offends some.

No matter how I look at it (in B4L's quote or the schedule of the closed door scrummage with a school that won't play us straight up in a regular season game) it meets Webster's criteria to me Whats next a closed door scrummage with Duke or maybe we can have a closed door with Michigan State How long before certain fans can attend the closed door scrimmages. Look, as I see it, BU fans got cut out of another chance to see their team play and for what, to pander to a school that won't play us straight up We talk about how hard scheduling is, how hard it is to get the big boys to play us, then we feed the monster by doing this closed door BS. What big school would schedule us when they can play us behind closed doors and no one will ever know the out come. They can escape BU's fans and any embarrassment BU may hand them. What are we becoming here a Taxi Squad for the Big Ones
I am for doing anything to improve our team but there is nothing better for a team than playing (scrummaging) in a real game setting with real fans in the stands and everyone knowing the out come My opinion

As fare as scheduling DePaul or any scheduling, I am sure Jimmy isn't out of the loop As for putting any blame on the acting AD for anything, it does not come from me I put it right where it should go, with the person who created the AD issue, Queen Prez

                          • I am sure if asked, Jerry Wainwright would say equally nicey-nice things about Bradley. Every coach does this. I don't see any reason to parse Jim Les' words and try to make more of them than is warranted.

                            • Hey guys, I agree with you but still like the idea of it maybe just for personal reasons because it's a short drive for me to Allstate Arena to watch a game if we get a home and home out of this. Sure the wording could have been better. And I agree, aren't we something like 8-0 vs the Big East in our last eight games. I'm not sure it's going to be an all out 40 minute game, I think it going to be what it is, a scrimmage, a practice session for two teams. I expect someone will get us a report of what happened.

Question T, wasn't the facilities under construction last year when we played Lewis and UW-Platteville in exhibition games As fare as paying us to come play a closed door scrummage with NO Revenue to be gain by DePaul, I doubt it Don't you think BU would stand to make some revenue by rescheduling UW-Platteville this year again and gain more from it than scrummaging the lowest of the Big East Also I think you are upside down in measuring up. The way I see it the Big East needs to measure up to us
