  • Electricmayhem's MVC preview article

One of our posters here, electricmayhem, has a new article this morning that I didn't see had been posted on Bradleyfans.com--

    17 Valley predictions for 2009-2010-
At Examiner.com™ we help you excel personal finance, boost income, invest wisely, travel smart, reach financial freedom faster, and enjoy life on a budget.

A lot of interesting Valley predictions, but I will be the first here to go on record and say you will be wrong about Andrew Warren and the Braves.
I think Warren will be among the top 3 scorers in the Valley, and Bradley will finish in the top 3.

we need to save these predictions.....

You know what? I completely forgot to post it here. I put it up on a few other sites around the league, then had to go to work early this morning. My fault. Thanks for catching it!

Coach - I hope you are right. Like I said, I try to stay unbiased with my composition, but as a BU alum, I hope we win the whole thing. I just don't see it. This whole situation with AW scares the hell out of me. Without him, I really think we are in trouble.

We said that last year, but TW was there to pick up the scoring slack. This year, we don't know who would be that guy, and we also have no clue who will lead the team in rebounding. WE is coming off a major injury, SS has never averaged 20 minutes per game, and AT had nothing last year. Despite my sub-par review of him, TB looks like the guy to fill a void.

ISU, SIU, CU, DU, INSU... they all have a go-to guy. Who is ours if AW doesn't suit up, or isn't 100%? I'm not saying that you have to have that guy to win, but I am scared at this point.

We'll see how it shakes out when I do my all-encompassing MVC preview right before the season starts. Thanks for the feedback!

Those predictions are really amusing, Eldredge is a very good college player but I just don"t see him playing in the NBA as he would need to play point guard and he basically can"t do it , Marshall will not lead the league in scoring , I wouldn"t make any bets on these predictions other then Creighton winning 20 games .

I'd rather not have him jinx us

Plus, if everyone's expectations are 6th... GREAT! That means we "worked even harder" when we win the league!

Like I said, I hope you all are right, and my pick of us finishing 6th is off.

Would anyone have bet on Shy Ely leading the league in scoring last year? Marshall's numbers look similar to Ely, and there really isn't anyone else to score there.

I think Osiris is athletic enough to play in the NBA, and I think he could be a smallish two-guard.

                  Go Braves!

I hate to be that guy, but look over this article and thread again, now that the season is rapidly approaching March.

Marshall is leading the Valley in scoring, and Odiakosa in rebounding.

I'm not sure what the point of this post was, but I was looking over old stuff, and T said to save these predictions...

Besides, there are some funny digs at me in this thread...

There is still a lot of time left in the season, so we'll see what happens. Just brought this up for fun...

mayhem - since you were the one who brought this old thread back....I want to congratulate you since - first you were bold enough to lay out your predictions, and you did pretty good in a year when a whole lot of surprises are happening in the Valley, and I doubt there are many who would have gotten much right in their predictions other than UNI was the preseason favorite unanimously...

as I look over your 17 predictions, I think you have a real chance of getting only maybe 3 or 4 of them 100% right...but I believe that's more than a lot of people would have gotten...
and yet you did well enough that I would grade most of your predictions are partially correct....

Now, I am not saying I would have done any better...but...as I see it, many of your predictions you got at least part of them RIGHT..

1-most people would assume you would use the overall Valley stats...and if that be the case...
Eldridge IS in 1st place at 16.7 and Marshall is way down the list at 13.7....
But Marshall is leading in the conference only stats....but it sure won't be at 18.2 ppg.

2-Dinma is leading the Valley in rebounding, so you did get half of this prediction right, but that wasn't really a hard pick...seriously....
anyway, he isn't averaging 9.1 rpg, he's at 8.5 - now the real surprise is that Taylor Brown is in the Top 5 and ahead of Lawson...

3-I believe time will show you'll get this one wrong...the Valley will still have just one team...but we can be hopeful

4-Dillard is having a decent year, but he's certainly NOT the best player outside of OE, and if he declares for the NBA draft, I would be stunned!

5-UNI will likely win 15-16 games in the Valley, and since everyone and their mother predicted they'd win the Valley, guessing 13 wins in my opinion will count this prediction as a "didn't come true"

6-Guessing Freeman as MVC NOW was certainly the widespread preseason thought, but he is going to have a hard time beating out Ryan and Mallett if SIU finishes 8-9th. Time will tell, and you might still get this one right, but almost every preseason publication also picked Freeman.

7-Creighton is about as likely to win 20 as BU

8-this was right, but they were good players last year, so they didn't come out of the woodwork

9-you may get this one partially right, but it won't be because of Creekmore..it'll be because of two newcomers, Leonard & Mallett

10-this wasn't a hard prediction, but you may have overshot Evansville's wins by at least 3..

11-Warren is fully healed, but you might just back into the 6th place prediction but it won't be because of Warren, but despite him.

12-Drake's already got 6 league wins, but Young is having a relative off-year...down almost 2.5 ppg on his average, and under his career 3-pt shooting

13-Jake is out, but you may yet get this one half right

14-Jury's still out, but I think you'll be wrong about this one

15-no where close to 7th - scheduling was way too soft by more than half the Valley teams

16-I can't imagine even one MVC coach will leave or get hired away...I guess maybe there's been some talk of Marshall or Cuonzo for the DePaul job, but it would be a shocker (no pun intended)

                          17-no way....
