  • Braves Exhibition Game #2 Thread

Less than 24 hours, and the Braves play again. Today they are traveling to San Carlos where they play the remaining four games of the exhibition tour.
The next three games are in pool play, then one more game with an opponent to be determined by Bradley's finish within their pool.
That will determine how BU finishes in the tournament...
I am sure the Braves want to win this tourney, but all the teams are very difficult pro teams, and as several sources have told us, they will NOT be pushovers.

Here is a detailed schedule of the tourney.......

Here is an article about the tourney and the next opponent.

and here is a discussion by one of the Brazilian basketball fans who we connected with on another message board and who has come here to give us some detailed info about the tourney teams.

I think Bradley can win, since we've been practicing intensely and some of these pro teams have been enjoying some time off......
Let's get 'em Braves......and go for the sweep.

    My prediction...BU 74 - Bauru 71

The keys for a BU victory:

    1. Explore the game inside. Last season, Bauru had one of the worst paints in the NBB league and they dont make much to get better (changed Maoz??o per Marcel??o...and got worse, IMO).

They??re adding a american big man (Chris Grimm), but I dont think he??ll be able to play Copa EPTV (VISA issues).

So, serious the paint is very weak. I dont know about BU??s big men, but If Les is smart, he??ll try to explore the ball inside with fast movements.

    2. Use the best defenders to make individual defense in Larry Taylor for most of the game.

Larry Taylor is a stud. In good conditions, he could make easily 40 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in a game like this (serious!), but the good news to BU is that Taylor just came back from vacations in US and arrived yesterday. So, explore this fact with a intense defense! I dont believe he will be able even to play more than 20 minutes this first game...

    3. Be careful with zone defense. Bauru is a great shooting team. Fischer won the NBB 3 point contest last season and he was the second in the league in FG3% with 48,4%, hitting 3,0 FG3 per game (the first in the ranking had 48,5%).

In the other hand, Bauru is what we can call a soft team. Except for Larry Taylor (and their new addition Eddy), they dont use to drive to the basket a lot.

    ____

If Larry was training for a month, I think it??d be a no brainer victory for Bauru (IMO, the age really make a big difference at this point), but considering that Larry Taylor is 50% from Bauru team and that he??s just arriving in Brazil, I really believe BU has a shot. Lets see what happen!

      Planaria thanks again!

We are wondering also what our bigs can give. Our best big is coming off a serious knee injury and will not play big minutes the next big has been in the program for ever and will probably see the most minutes. Hopefully he is up for the task.

It will be very doubtful that we play any zone unless we are pressing. I expect us to try and keep an uptempo game. How tall is Taylor? Our best defensive guys are around 6'5".

Dunson and Roberts can take turns guarding Taylor, we need a great team effort in order to win this game tonight , our freethrow shooting and 3 point shooting needs to be a lot better if we expect to win games against any good teams. these games are definitely better then the ones we played in Canada and will get us more prepared for the upcoming season. Hopefully this tournament will post stats quicker so we know what happened sooner then the other game we played as it took over 8 hours to see a stat sheet from that game.

I think it's unreasonable to expect Bradley will win these next 4 games against professional teams. They play a high-level of pro basketball in the NBB, and the upper teams are comparable to most decent European leagues. The team we play today is probably the best of the teams in this tournament. As planaria has said, one advantage is that their season is just getting started, so these teams haven't practiced much or even settled on their rosters completely. But then Bradley hasn't had many practices either, and they are short their 4 freshmen, and their best player (Warren).
These teams will all have big men in the middle who can score a little, and they will have very good outside shooters. From what I have been able to determine, the other Bradley advantage might be their defensive capabilities. These Brazilian pro teams aren't usually known for playing great defense, and maybe the quickness and defensive abilities of Bradley's guards can frustrate them and lead to turnovers. If Bradley can beat this Bauru team tonight, it will bode well for their chances the rest of the tournament.

You made valid points. And yes, dont expect much defense from these brazilians teams.

There are some few clubs in Brazil who play good defense (Universo/BRB, Joinville, Vivo/Franca), but that isnt the case of the Copa EPTV??s teams.

Actually, Bauru is maybe the best defense you??re playing in this tournament, but that??s because they play a balanced offense (giving up few fast breaks per game), not because their defensive players.

I??m really curious to see these games. Unfourtunally, it wont be broadcasted here (despite the name of tournament be from a local TV).

planaria, is there any way to get games scores, or possibly a live feed of the running score...
or even just good info about the tourney or the games?
Does the tourney itself have a web site?

I just read that Larry Taylor is out from Copa EPTV due VISA issues. Bauru without Larry should be ranked as the 3th or 4th best brazilian team on this tournament.

planaria, I am a bit disheartened to hear that, as I had hoped all the teams would be full strength and tough opponents...
that's what Bradley needs right now and will benefit MOST from!

Agreed! The result isnt the most important to BU, IMO.

Face a guy that is in the brazilian MVP level, it would be a great test for Bradley players.

Considering the age/experience factors, I have my doubts if BU would have to face a better player in the next season in NCAA.

BTW, where did you find the scoreboard of S??o Jos?© game?
