Article from BradleyBraves.com with a few more details of the game-
RIO DE JANEIRO ? Bradley senior guard Dodie Dunson led four teammates in double-figures by scoring a game-high 18 points and the Braves pulled away down the stretch for an 82-61 victory versus Fluminese in the first game of their five-game preseason tour in Brazil.
RIO DE JANEIRO – Bradley senior guard Dodie Dunson led four teammates in double-figures by scoring a game-high 18 points and the Braves pulled away down the stretch for an 82-61 victory versus Fluminese in the first game of their five-game preseason tour in Brazil.
The scorer’s table staff made changes to the score on three separate occasions during the game, so Bradley’s unofficial statistics will differ from the limited statistics provided by the hosts. Thus far, Bradley Associate AD for Communications Bobby Parker has only been able to accumulate Bradley’s statistics based on his manually produced play-by-play from the game.
Junior guard Sam Maniscalco added 17 points, while senior guard Chris Roberts and sophomore forward Taylor Brown both chipped in with 13 points. Brown added a team-high nine rebounds and Roberts filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
Bradley never trailed in the game, but the Braves did not pull away until outscoring the hosts 23-12 in the fourth quarter. Brown launched the deciding volley with a breakaway slam to start the period, giving the Braves a lasting double-digit lead, 61-49.
Bradley stretched the lead to 19 points, 69-50, after a Ryan Phillips slam, only to see Fluminese use an 11-4 surge to pull within 73-61.
Roberts almost single-handedly closed the game out, though, first by starting the game-ending surge by back-to-back steals. The first set up his own breakaway slam and the second led to a Brown basket that Roberts assisted. He added two more assists, a blocked shot and a defensive rebound to close out the game.
The Fluminese Gymnasium is one athletics facility inside a large private club, that included the soccer (futbol) stadium, a set of four clay tennis courts, an outdoor “indoor” futbol stadium, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool with a grandstand. The gym, which is enclosed but has open-air endzone, has seats for about 200 people on one side opposite the team benches and a horseshoe-shaped balcony overlooking the court on three sides. Unlike American grade school gymnasiums that often have a stage at one end, the closed end of the Fluminese Gymnasium is set up as a gymnastics training area and several young children were working out in the area during the basketball game. Next to the main gym was a smaller, narrow gymnasium set up for volleyball at one end and indoor soccer/basketball at the far end.
Saturday’s game was attended by approximately 150 people and the Braves mingled with several of the young fans after the game.
Here is a picture of the gymnasium
