Brazil rally past Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro - Aug 8, 2009 (by Eurobasket News)
Brazil - Uruguay 100:63
Brazil celebrated a confident victory over Uruguay at the Super Four tournament that moved to Rio de Janeiro now. Brazil welcomed the arrival of several key players and left not a single chance for the visitors. Anderson Varejao (205-C-82) scored 19 points to pace the hosts.
Brazil and Uruguay stayed close throughout the first quarter. The home team eked out just a 3-point lead after ten minutes 20:17. But the gap started to grow in the second frame. Brazil dominated every facet of the game and ensured a 17-point buffer at halftime. The hosts unleashed 32 points in the third stanza to accumulate a comfortable buffer at the final break. Brazil cruised to the win in the final minutes.
Leandrinho Barbosa (190-G-82) posted 18 points for Brazil. Guilherme Giovannoni (202-F-80, agency: Interperformances) added 14 points for the winners. Esteban Batista (208-F/C-83) and Leandro Garcia Morales (186-G-80, agency: Interperformances, college: Texas A&M) answered with 11 points each for Uruguay. Emilio Taboada (193-F-82) had 10 points in the loss.
Brazil will next take on Australia, while Uruguay will face Argentina.
Brazil: Anderson Varejao 19, Leandrinho Barbosa 18, Guilherme Giovannoni 14

The best amateur players from Brazil are in Oregon at the Nike Global Challenge.
The Brazilian team dominated a team from the US West/South by 30 points. They know how to play, and they are great shooters.

Stats-
Game 3 - Team USA West/South vs. Team Brazil: Bad start for Team USA in this one. They let Brazil do exactly what they want out on the court and get themselves into a 0-12 hole before Portland's own Terrence Jones puts in a two off the glass for Team USA's first couple points in the game.
Brazil is moving the ball with ease, and the US team just isn't working hard enough to guard the perimeter and obstruct the passing lanes. Both guards for Brazil have been fantastic in the first half. Vitor Alves Benite has been a great floor general despite looking like he just got out of bead with his beard/floppy hair combo. Sparing him some minutes has been Raul Togni Neto. Both players have not only distributed the ball well, but are also making sure to take open shots when they have them. That was the most important factor for Brazil in the fist half, but they have also had a bit of luck on their side. It seems like every tipped ball, deflection or tip-in has gone the South Americans' way.
The other player that has been a joy to watch for the Brazilian side is Lucas Riva Amarante Nogueira, otherwise known as "Bebe". Bebe is listed at 6-9 and a half. However, my guess would be that he's a legit 6-11, or 7-0. His arms are so long he looks like he could touch the top of the backboard! The NBA scouts in attendance must be licking their chops. Bebe has been a terror in the paint. He destroyed an early attempt by CJ Leslie with a block and has tipped about every missed shot for Brazil, keeping every possession alive and forcing the Americans to expend their energy defending for extended periods of time.
On the USA side of the ball, Portland's Terrence Jones has been solid, but not very involved in the offense. This USA team really needs to get away from the isolation plays and 1-on-1 basketball. All of their plays have looked stagnant and forced from the start. The bright spot for Team USA is that they have kept the score within striking distance (12 points) and CJ Leslie has been very active for them. He missed a couple of shots early, but a nice put back and a vicious reverse dunk in transition seem to have given him some confidence. We'll see if Team USA can ride that momentum and Leslie's athleticism in order to even the score. At the half, Team Brazil leads Team USA West/South, 38-26.
Brazil has a guy whose last name is "Burger" (Jordan Burger.) Yes, I think that this is awesome. Even better, he's having a great game.
The woes that plagued the USA team in the first half continued on into the 2nd. Again, Team USA has just been sloppy with the ball, and it looks like everybody is just looking for their own shot. At the same time, Brazil comes right out of the gate with that same determination they had in the first half. Benite has been on fire from behind the arc, as well as the rest of the Brazilian team, including Adonis C. Souza
CJ Leslie has cooled off considerably for Team USA and is losing the battle inside to the towering 7-footer "Bebe". In the third quarter alone, Bebe had three blocks and two of those came on Leslie who was driving to the hole with determination. Both times, Leslie is rejected hard to the cheers from the Brazilian bench. However, Bebe took a hard elbow to his ribs and sat out the 4th quarter. In the final minutes, Team Brazil pushes their lead up to 30 points and the Americans seem helpless to stop them. Suffice to say, this game was a wash. Team Brazil crushes Team USA West/South, 92-62. Complete stats.

school and Spanish classes, with a Brazilian teacher. "
What are the advantages and disadvantages of measuring 2.12 m?
"I like to be high because it draws attention and makes me feel good in the
carboy. Also, change the lamp without stairs. But also facing some
difficulties. 52 tennis shoe and not imported. Also send doing social trousers
and shirts. And I have to bow their heads in some elevators, subways and
buses. "
What are your idols?
"Above all, Jesus. My brother Sandro Riva (ex football player). In sports, Zico,
who gave me the world. And in basketball, I have several. I love Kobe Bryant
and Magic Johnson. Among the most admired Brazilian Leandrinho, who plays
too much and is a humble person. Tiago Splitter is the beast. I saw a game of
it against my team and the guy has 30 points. It is the best player in activity
in Spain and has an impressive technique. "
And the importance of family in your career?
"Total. Everyone always supported me very much. My parents moved to
Niter??i S??o Gon?§alo for me just to be closer to the club and the school. My
brothers are wonderful and always helped me. I have to thank them for
believing in me and my talent. "
As started in basketball?
"When I played football, but great that way, just in basketball. I started late,
with 14 years at the Central Club in Niter??i, the technical Kanbach Rodrigo,
who is a great professional. From there I went to Spain. "
