The plane with the Braves is landing at Rio de Janeiro International Airport (also known as Gale??o -
Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport) early this morning after a more than 10 hour flight from Atlanta.
It is presently about 9AM there, and I suspect the team will bus to the hotel and get rested up first, having flown all night.
It is 73 degrees, and will go up to about 80 later today.
Later today the team will go to the Masters Association gymnasium in Rio for practice.
The only game in Rio will be on the 8th (Saturday) at 4PM (2PM our time)...then the team will have two additional days in Rio,
then on the 11th will leave Rio and head inland to Sao Carlos.
The tournament in Sao Carlos will be held at the gymnasium of Sao Paolo University of Sao Carlos.
Here is the web site for the university in Sao Carlos, where the tournament games will be played, it doesn't have anything about the tourney,
as the tournament is not a collegiate tournament and the colleges in Brazil do NOT have basketball teams that compete. Competetive basketball in Brazil is exclusively club teams and numerous professional teams.
Here are the dates and times for the games in Sao Carlos
Pool play--
Wednesday, Aug. 12 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 13 6:00 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 14 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 15 1:30 p.m. Fifth-Place Game (Group 1 3rd vs. Group 2 3rd)
.........................3:30 p.m. Third-Place Game (Group 1 2nd vs. Group 2 2nd)
.........................5:30 p.m Championship Game between the two pool winners. (hopefully this is the game we will be playing!)
The team's hotel while in Rio de Janeiro is the Golden Tulip Continental, and in Sao Paulo they will be staying at the Quality Anaca Hotel.
I wouldn't mind staying in this hotel...
This is a picture from the rooftop of the hotel facing the ocean.
