  • Still no word on a new AD

Three major revenue producing positions are open with BU Athletics...

    Director of Athletics
    Director of Corporate Sales
    Assistant Director of Marketing

With the chief internal officer running the department as the Interim AD, no one is doing her job internally.

We are three people down with less than 3 months before the start of basketball practice.

And we go into a 4th month with no word from Glasser...

And that will continue for the foreseeable future as she runs an already suspect athletic program into the ground.

Finally, someone who does not think that INTERIM is the almighty solution. The only thing that interim does is take status quo down a rung or two. It is truly pathetic that we cannot find a leader inside of 4 months. Sad.

That's what happens when you run a quality AD out of town with no plan whatsoever to replace him. It's a comedy of errors right now on the Hilltop, and unfortunately the paying fans and alumni are the ones who have to suffer the consequences.

Before we go further with attacking the admins, let me ask: is there any evidence that anyone is suffering because of the current situation? Or that the program is going downhill?
I am willing to wait to see what the plan is. And I think the athletic program is in capable hands right now with VHB.

BU had pretty good leadership under KK and everything up to this point can be contributed to that but as time goes by without proper guidance I'm afraid the price will be paid later on. Again I do not know enough of the current working conditions of the department I just know we do not have an AD in place. If VHB is the person, take the interim off her title. It is not doing anyone any good.

I'm with DaCoach on this one. I haven't seen any evidence of the fans of Bradley athletics suffering any consequences. I also don't understand what's wrong with someone having the "interim" title. Just not sure how much better/worse that person could do the job simply because a word is removed from the job title.

Aside from perhaps not winning enough, there was nothing wrong with the athletic department. Now the stability of a well-respected AD is gone with little reason as to why, and there are several key open positions. There appears to be no plan nor no urgency to name a new leader of the athletic department. Actions speak louder than words, and the actions I have seen have been a fiasco of a hiring for the baseball program, and an even bigger fiasco in running the AD out of town. When there are actions to make me think the best interests of the athletic department are on the President's mind, let me know.

Shaunguth, Have you ever been in a job situation where you are not sure where you stand and further the staff is not sure what is going to happen. What if a new person comes in and want to clean house. Inaction like this with any staff in any business rarely ever increases productivity. Facts lie that it does the opposite. When was the last great company ran by a interim CEO? It just never happens because the stock price would plummet for good reason. Who is creating that needed vision for the future?

From what I understand, she took a bigger stance on certain "off-court" situations than the AD she "ran out of town". I don't know or even pretend to know any of the people involved or the inner workings of the Bradley athletic department. Therefore, I would never make the claim that there is or isn't a "plan". I also don't believe there has to be a public "reason" as to someone applying for and getting a new job elsewhere.

I can understand that point, but I would assume everyone in the department knows the "interim" AD is the one in charge, especially considering her time spent at Bradley. I guess I'm thinking of interim coaches where that person is in charge. I don't think the players come to play not knowing who the coach is, "interim" or not.

I agree with you BB Let me add a couple things. When you lose great leadership and a long term leader like KK, the ship should / will run on course for a time and then unless another leader of equal qualities is hired, the ship will come upon stormy weather that will rock the whole ship

Next, when you have a control freak at the top, they love to have all the power, be seen by all and themselfs as the person doing it all and have all eyes on them! I believe this could be a big part of the case with the three vacated and unfilled major revenue producing positions I still say, if I were a betting man, my money would be that there will be NO search for a AD but a appointment by no other than, Well you Know

I think the frustrating part in all of this is that there's been no word from anyone in regards to the AD position from BU and the print and tv media. I'm not sure why there seems to be all this cloak and dagger. If Virnette is the new AD then announce it. School is just about to start. I would think you would want your full-time staff in place before it begins.

Add me to the list of generally half-glass-full guys very troubled by developments with the AD position. I don't claim to know anything in any detail, and if VHB is qualified and capable it's fine with me if she assumes the role... But the fact that she has not seems to indicate that she is not the long-term solution.
