  • University of Illinois - Springfield

University of Illinois - Springfield (UIS) was granted NCAA Division II provisional status..
that means they can begin playing as D-II schools but are still not eligible for postseason play.
After either one or possibly two years of provisional status (as determined by their progress towards meeting NCAA requirements), their progress will be reviewed and they may then move to full D-II status possibly by as early as 2010-2011.

ex-BU'er Ryan Thornton presently is entering his junior season at UIS, which is coached by Springfield-area great and ex-Iowa Hawkeye Kevin Gamble.
Also Lincoln HS grad and Lincoln College grad Brandon Farmer has now transferred to UIS from Lincoln College (juco).

One school that was denied by NCAA in its request for candidacy for D-II was Lebanon, IL McKendree College.

It was just announced a few weeks ago that UIS will be hosting the 2010 GLVC (Great Lakes Valley Conference) Men's and Women's Basketball Final Four. They will be hosting as a neutral site since they will not be eligible for the conference tournament...

It will be held at UIS's fairly newly completed TRAC center (The Recreation and Athletic Center)
