  • Iowa Commit Renegs and Picks Santa Clara

Class of 2010, 6-6 SF had already locked in on a schoalrship to Iowa...
he had also been heavily recruited by Creighton, UNI, and Drake and was a 3-Star recruit.
But when a bunch of Iowa players were sent packing by Coach Lickliter,
Chanse Creekmur decommitted and reopened his recruiting....and despite supposed continued strong interest from Iowa, Arizona State, and lots of other schools, he has chosen Santa Clara of the West Coast Conference.

Arizona State, Oregon State, Minnesota, San Diego, Nevada and Marquette... Washington State"

Kerry Keating is the HC at Santa Clara and he can flat out recruit and coach.

Creekmur informed coaches of his decision before it was made official that those players were leaving. Jake Kelly, who left due to the death of his mother, was the only significant loss of the 4 that left. Only 1 of the other 3 would have had a shot at starting and the other two were clearly out of their league in the Big 10. Several of the Iowa boards are calling it "addition by subtraction" but I don't necessarily agree.

I am impressed however that Lickliter has almost locked up his 2010 recruiting class already. He made his top targets clear and has landed 3 of them, each of them committing in the past 3 weeks, not including a 4th recruit who committed during his sophomore season. After praising Lickliter's most recent recruit Zach McCabe, Van Coleman now rates Iowa's recruiting class as 3rd best in the Big 10 for 2010.

Every scouting report I have read makes it pretty clear Creekmur is a kid who is a marginal high-major talent and would likely thrive in a mid-major setting. I applaud Creekmur for this decision. I wish more of these kids would open their eyes and make the same realization.
