  • Coaches who must be on Al Gore's hit list

since everyone must be more responsible for their carbon footprints....lets start with these guys...

New Memphis coach John Pastner flies Memphis' private jet back and forth numerous times in a single day
to catch various games in numerous locations far apart.
Six separate, costly private jet flights just to observe recruits in a 36 hour span...

IU's Tom Crean shuttles between seven different cities, six different AAU event, and at least nine
or ten different trips many on private jets.....
then he has the gall to say this....
"...just read Pat Forde's piece in ESPN.COM on programs cutting back. (because of massive,
    reckless spending & financial shortfalls)
As usual it was very good.
As far as my travel is concerned I dont want any of you to get the wrong idea that I am wasting money.
....to Louisville to Philly to Louisville trip . Drive to Louisville the next day then on to Indianapolis.
After 2 days of driving back and forth between Indianapolis and Cincinnati we flew 2 Cleveland and then home to switch pilots.
The whirlwind since Sunday has been Milwaukee, Augusta, Clarksville, a family funeral in Crestline Ohio and then Morgantown..."

nope, Tom, I can easily see how you are saving a bundle for the Indiana taxpayers....
at least you didn't take your Hummer with you on those multiple flights.
Remember Tom, you only have one open scholarship for next year and then only one more
for the next two years beyond that, unless you are going to do some further Creaning!

ESPN article how big college coaches are blowing through so much money, they are going broke...

Ha..I got a laugh out of how they tried to prove the BIG BOYS are starting to try to make changes to save $$...so what example do they give???
Seton Hall's coach drove on a 4 hr trip instead of chartering a flight!!
Ha, ha....Seton Hall is barely a BCS, and a small private school to boot...about the size of Bradley...
what the hey...Bradley's coaches discovered driving even back when gas guzzlers ruled.
trust me....the big boys are still recklessly and wildly spending money like it's going out of style...
Most revenue-sport coaches are accustomed to living like CEOs. These financial times have changed some things.

also the true victims of the wasteful spending...the athletes whose programs get cut to balance the reckless spending
Student-athletes across the country are the faceless collateral damage caused by the economic crisis.

I just spoke with a colleague who has flown private jets, and he spoke to the costs of doing all this...
the costs of course involve the operation and use of the jet, securing a pilot, fuel, and other costs...
but the costs come roughly to $2000 to $5000 per hour ...and as many as these guys are taking could total $20000 to $30000 a day

This is a busy week of recruiting, these BCS boys probably blow through amounts that exceed the entire yearly basketball recruiting budget of most D-I schools....and is as much as 10 times the entire annual recruiting budget of some of the lower D-I schools.

and much of that $$ is all up in smoke and "carbon" leaving behind a huge footprint....
but they want you to bike to work to save the environment!!
