  • 4-Star Wing back on the market

4-star wing Jason Henry from the Memphis area, spent his freshman year at Arkansas, and then new coach John Pelphrey didn't play the guy much at all,
so he's leaving and looking elsewhere. Good bet with all the defections to UK, Memphis might land the kid.
The Official Athletics Site for the University of Arkansas. Watch game highlights of Arkansas Razorbacks games online, get tickets to Razorback athletic events, and shop for official Arkansas Razorbacks gear in the team store.

Here's the words of his coach at Cincinnati Harmony Prep
"He has the athleticism, shooting ability and skill set to do it all. He's a great player.
I have sent 12 players to Division I schools and he's easily the best player I have ever coached."

Jason Henry leaving Arkansas has nothing to do with playing time. He was given numerous chances to succeed in the classroon and clean up his act. This kid has no business being a college student. As if that had stopped schools in the past from allowing these kids on their campus.
Henry has a ton of potential. He had one game that he was all over the place, I had no idea he was that good. Wherever he goes, the team will find a kid with pro potential, if he can stay eligible.
The Razorback basketball team had a ton of character issues. I have a theory on that problem. When Pelphrey took over he had a large senior class that was good enough to take them to the tournament. He had to replace a huge part of the team.
He was named coach late in the prior year so he had no time to recruit the prior Spring. The Fall Recruiting Cycle rolled around and the staff did not have time to build relationships in that short time so the fall was basically making up ground.
The season rolled around and the team had a very good year. Pelphrey put all of his effort into winning with his new team and didn't have much time for recruiting. The team made the tournament and he put recruiting off evern further. Kind of like what happened to Bradley the year they made it to the Sweet Sixteen.
Pelphrey was in a worse postion than Les because he had to replace 7 players. He was forced to take as many players as possible. Well, by this time the good to great players with character and grades were long gone. He needed SEC Caliber Athletes, so he was forced to take the kids with talent that had been culled over due to character issues, grade issues, or had little chance of playing DI Basketball. A potent combination that could and would cause problems.
Viola, the mass exodus occurs. Jason Henry was combination of both Character and Grades. Andre Clark was tall, could run and jump but had little skill. There were a few other players that either never got enrolled or left the program but I can't recall.
Stephan Welsh was already in the program when Pelphrey arrived. However, I believe, not sure, that the old saying that "a few rotten apples can ruin the whole bushell," applies.

The group that remains and the new recruits which have been signed appear to be a better fit for a major University. The fans just need to be more patient. Pelphrey is a very good coach who will have big things in his future, as long as he is a given a chance. The fans should give him a mulligan this season and expect 20 wins next season.
      Just my two cents!
