  • 2006-2007 Missouri Valley team reviews

Since there isn't much news right now, and the Bradley staff is on vacation following the July evaluation period, I thought I'd link to this discussion from the ValleyTalk bulletin board.

Fans from several MVC teams have posted previews of their teams for the upcoming season. There is some pretty good, though slightly biased, information about Missouri State, Wichita State, Drake, Illinois State, UNI, and Indiana State. Bradley is one of 4 teams not yet summarized (BU, Creighton, SIU, and Evansville).

thanks for the link. didn't realize that indiana state is playing both indiana and purdue this upcoming season.

why don't you or tornado do one for bu?

How many people regularly read VT? I get pretty bored of the CU-WSU stuff, but it is sure funny sometimes.

i occasionally read vt. like this board and the pjstar board better though. more good links on this board. more varied fans with different topics and more illini posts on the pjstar board.

still would like da coach or t to put something up on bu though.

Once the season starts, VT will be much more league-oriented. When it's not basketball season, usually the WSU/CU/MSU/SIU stuff takes center stage. When the season actually starts, the site will be full of stuff from all schools. It's a great read and a great perspective during the season. It's a nice compliment to the other great boards around the league.

How many Bradley fans write on that site and what do you think about their opinions?

If you are referring to Valleytalk, here is my answer...

I have a total of about 8 posts since they went to their new format in March, 2006, and I had maybe 5 or so in the year or two prior to that, and here's why.

It does appear to be ruled and moderated by people who don't want to hear dissenting opinions.
The SIU and the Creighton people dominate and are fairly rude to pro BU people.

Just two days ago I posted one comment under the thread about Wichita getting a guarantee game with Syracuse.
In the midst of all the attacks against Wichita by the SIU and CU people, one guy made the claim that Wichita and Bradley were "whoring out" the entire rest of the Valley.

I politely asked what the heck the guy was talking about, as BU hasn't played any of these guarantee games in years, and certainly Wichita hasn't made a habit of it either, but that teams just aren't wanting to come into MVC arenas like they once did, and that WSU did get a good opportunity game out of this.

I also pointed out the hypocrisy of the guy since Creighton played a guarantee game last year at DePaul, where BU was able to get a home and home (by the way BU won their game vs. DePaul by 15 and CU lost theirs by 15).
MSU had a guarantee game at Arkansas, and while preaching from their mighty pulpits, the Salukis were losing to D-II teams like Alaska Anchorage, which hurts the Valley way, way more than going on the road to play a perennial Top 20 team like Syracuse.

The result of my post--- it was deleted within a few hours, so I won't bother to add my opinion there any more.
It really isn't "Valleytalk", it is really more like a couterfeit Valleytalk and should be called "Semi-Valleytalk".

There are a decent number of BU fans on there. Most of them are recognizable from the pjstar board and this board, either by screen name or posting style/point of view. It doesn't seem that the BU following on ValleyTalk has the renegade posters that some of the other schools do, which is a good thing IMO. There are a small number of posters on there who won't even be claimed by the schools they're posting/cheering for. That's pretty sad.

I haven't noticed the dissent or vitriol that Tornado has, but that's just me.

Actually, BB, I have posted so little that I am not referring to any issues I have had with my posts, but I have seen
a whole lot of the "Jim Les is cheating" stuff, and "Bradley sucks" kind of mentality.
To me it isn't much different than wading into the PJS board and getting slammed for just being pro-BU.

But it's the hostility being shown by some towards Wichita for doing a guarantee game that caused me to be so negative.
Some of the worst posts have been reviewed, but I was really surprised that one guy included Bradley in his slam and called WSU and BU "whores". Some of the guy's posts are still up in the discussion and they speak for themselves.

I think I know who you're talking about, and I agree that this person is an idiot. There are a few posters on there who are pariahs from their own fan base, yet continue to post. I know that last week when I posted on Jim Les being inducted into the Chicagoland Sports HOF, there were many kind words and congratulatory posts from a lot of schools, but one idiot poster from SIU who SIU fans won't claim and often argue with chose to do nothing but slander the guy and the award. Usually most have found that this posters stupidity speaks for itself and won't dignify him with a response. However, some (including myself) have fallen for the bait.

T----your post is still there.....there are two different threads regarding that subject; perhaps you were looking in the other one. It's in the "Kyle Whelliston comments on WSU/Syracuse" thread. I have deleted a lot of posts on VT, but never because I didn't like somebody's opinion. I will tell you though, that sometimes "innocent" people get posts deleted....if they're in response to a post that deserves deleting, the responses will generally get deleted as well.

The endless bickering between WSU and CU fans during the summer gets old, but it's still a good source of info. I suppose any time you get fans of several teams together, there will be a certain amount of "stuff" flung around.

thanks bulldog. does seem like the wsu and cu posters don't care much for each other on vt. what i like is when the season begins and all the valley fans/posters are all pulling for every valley team to win in their non-conference games. that is kinda cool.

What I like is your avatars.....where do you get all those?

VT always goes to pot during the off-season, but this is the worst I've ever seen it. I'm hoping it gets better once the season rolls around. Unfortunately, the guy who actually owns VT is very rarely even on the board, so the mods are unsure what direction to take.
