  • Suns trade Shaq to Cleveland Cavaliers for Ben Wallace

It's being reported that The Phoenix Suns have reached a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade Shaquille O'Neal to the Cavs for Ben Wallace (who has announced he is retiring), Sasha Pavlovic (who?), and the Cav's 2nd round draft pick in today's draft (the 46th pick overall).

wow, that's gotta be insulting to Shaq, who appears to think kinda highly of himself........this sort of reminds me of this trade...

Wonder if this means that the Suns will try to keep Amar'e Stoudemire long-term, now that cap space is cleared up and they don't have to fight for the spotlight.

Not exactly sure what this trade does for the Cav's problems when it came to defending and/or scoring on the guards of Orlando.

The size and length of Orlando specifically Lewis and Turkolu exposed Cleveland bigtime. Adding someone like Vince Carter will be much bigger in taking the step to getting past a team like Orlando.

If Shaq can trim down and stay healthy, it's got to help the Cavs.
Ben Wallace got real bad in a hurry during his last year with the Bulls and his time in Cleveland. I am sure they were overjoyed to be rid of him. Shaq, if healthy, can provide inside scoring, which Ilgauskas and Wallace do not, and he can defend better.
Though his skills have declined a bit, he still averaged 17.8 ppg (which would rank 2nd if compared with Cleveland's players' stats), and 8.4 rpg (16th in the NBA and significantly more than anyone on the Cavs) in 75 games this past season with Phoenix. He also shot 59.5% from the free throw line, which was the 2nd best in his career!
          Shaq's stats-
