  • Chris Roberts' miracle shot

Here is a video report from WMBD and Kurt Pegler about the Bradley camps being held last week and this week. Chris Roberts is one of the "teachers" at the camps, but the campers keep asking about "the shot".
Chris tries to re-enact the shot at the camp. See if he makes it-

Wow, DC....you almost gave me a heart attack. After seeing the title of this thread, I thought for a moment you were saying that "Chris Roberts was shot"...

It's great to hear stories about kids who are engaged with Bradley basketball. With the older crowd at Carver seemingly growing a bit smaller every year, we are going to need this next generation to keep filling those seats game in and game out.

Did he get it off before the buzzer this time?

        Did he travel this time?

Sorry, I just noticed that. I didn't intend for the double meaning.

So I corrected the title from "Chris Roberts shot", to "Chris Roberts' miracle shot".

Chris Roberts has been working on his shot....
and according to this story, he seems to be able to make it with at least as much regularity as some of the Valley's "best shooters" make their 3-pointers!!

also....as for the shot getting longer and now being "80 feet"!!

remember...the floor is only 94 feet from baseline to baseline...

and there are four feet behind each backboard and because of the hoop iron, the center of each hoop is really 5 feet in from the baseline...
so for the shot to actually be 80 feet, he'd have had to release it within only four feet of the hoop on the opposite end,
and I am sure he was above the FT line extended...so the shot was closer to 70 feet!

Don't know where you get that the older crowd is getting smaller. The non student seats are always filled year in and year out and not by kids.

Gotta love Chico, taking up for his generation every time. Let's face it there is a group of retirees who attend every game possible, at home and on the road game when possible. People like Chico makes BU special IMO. How many places are so cross generational? Not a whole lot! We need more interaction between the generations so the old can teach the young and the young can give out their energy. This generation of kids do not seem so sport enthusiastic as some in the past. They would rather sit in the dorms and play basketball video games then attend a live one, at least out here in the bay area.

I have formed this opinion looking at my row and even a whole part of the section I sit in for the past 15 years. It has gone from almost entirely made up of older BU fans to a row almost entirely comprised of 20, 30 and 40-somethings. It has been a 15-year process, and is not happening quickly.

The point I was trying to make in my original post is that I feel it is very important for BU to continue to conduct events that engage the younger fans. Those same kids going to the camps this year may be the kids who choose to come to the games when they attend Bradley in 10 years instead of sitting in their dorm rooms playing video games (as SFP pointed out).

I think you are right P-Town. The section I am in was filled with older fans 10-20 years ago, but in the last 10 years, nearly all the older fans are gone, and replaced by mid-age season-ticket holders.

Another thing you have to look at is that ticket prices are getting higher along with more and more kids in the 1990's and 00's attending college.

I guess my point was that the older fans are gone because they were older fans. They were mid-age season ticket holders at one time also. Generation after generation have been supporting BU basketball for 100 years.

I think college basketball season ticket prices represent, quite possibly, the best entertainment value in America. To pay only $150-$1000 for a full season of college basketball is, to me, an incredible bagain.

Good post SFP. Plus I know quite a few fans whom I would guess are in Chico's era who purchase season tickets to attend the games while they are here, and then they spend the rest of the winter in Florida or Arizona. Can't blame them for that.
