BYU, Utah, and several other schools do all the time and are quite successful with the kids who do their missions first...
this gives BU two open scholarships for next fall, 2010, and then one more for 2011, barring any other changes/redshirts/losses.
By 2011 we will need to replace AW and Sam M, so we'll need to start lining up the prospects!
Maybe use one of the 2010 scholarships for a big name transfer that'll sit 2010-2011 and be ready for 2011-2012.

So Harris is not coming for 2 years? What exactly then was he doing all of last season? This means he is out of basketball essentially for 3 years. I know missions usually are for 2 years but why the loss of the 3rd year of basketball, I do not understand why this is not the 2nd year of his 2 year mission.

Again? I already changed it once and then back again!

Grid will be updated this afternoon.....apparently my most current file is at work. I need to start getting more organized this time of year!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

No cause for concern, we simply cannot LOSE what we did not HAVE, and we certainly haven't lost him to anyone else.
I don't understand the workings of the Mormon Missions, and I doubt any of us do, but at least we know Sean has been playing in a Pro-Am league in the interval.
Sean Harris has not signed a LOI and now won't until at least fall of 2010,
so I know we will not get any official confirmation from BU on this one.
I trust our staff know what to do with the scholarships.

it's like an extra redshirt year, so he'll still be a sophomore when he arrives, but a year bigger, stronger, and perhaps better.

Let's add more mature! I'm not to worried about this guy losing anything, if anything those extra years will just give him the chance to get bigger and be a man among boys. Coach Corn did say he is the type of player that has a motor. That usually means he hustles his tail off, he runs the floor, plays D, rebounds and needs to develop a bit of a finesse game. I like it also we now can offer the Johnson brothers a packaged deal. I was wondering why Eto said that the BU staff was checking out both. Now we know and the staff knew this probably months ago.

There is no way a guy can be away from something for 3 years and not have a downside to it, especially playing basketball. I agree he will likely be more mature, and that includes physically but it is not a positive, especially in his first season to have been off the court for 3 years.

I agree 100%. That's why I also worry about Andrew Warren. I hope I'm 100% wrong, but I don't think you're going to see the AW that a lot of people are anticipating. It's not a knock on him, it's just life.

This could end up being better as we really don"t need him so much next season as we do further down the road , he definitely will be rusty but with a lot of hard work he should be fine. We should be more concerned about his safety in Honduras plus he should be commended for the sacrifices he is making.

My money says he never ends up donning a BU uniform.

Ok-- now you're on record saying that about two guys....and I have never used the words "dons" or "donning".

I'm not sure where you came into me offering my opinion, or where I ever commented on your vernacular. If I did and I offended you, I apologize. I hope they both make it here and have great careers. I'm not looking to split hairs here or have a p-ssing contest, but Wilkins didn't make it here last year and is still questionable at best in making it here at all. Harris was supposed to be 2 years out a year ago, now it's gonna be 3 years at the earliest when it's all said and done. Spending 2 years in Honduras with a bunch of people that are probably going back to BYU, Utah, or another Mormon school/environment doesn't make me overly optimistic about him staying firm to a committment he made in 2008 to play basketball in Peoria, IL. Just my two cents.

Most of the texts & emails I've been trading today have that same opinion.
