  • 6'11" Brett Thompson- former BU recruit- announces he is transferring from SLU

Bradley recruited 6'11" big man Brett Thompson out of Vienna (IL) High School in 2008, but he committed to Rick Majerus and St. Louis University.
Here is a link to the thread about him on out recruiting board--

He has announced he will leave SLU, and transfer-

He played very little at St. Louis his freshman year, and averaged 2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Thare has been no announcement where he might transfer. If he did transfer to another D1 school, he would have to sit out this coming season, and would have 3 remaining years of eligibility starting with the 2010-2011 season.

    is anyone surprised by this?
this kid was top 100 nationally until he verballed to a mid-major then he fell to just outside the top 100, but he still could do well in the right system.

there are rumors begin put forth it had to do with a certain coach's temperament and the player simply not wanting to deal with erratic, schizoid, and bizarre behavior..

Iowa State targeted Thompson solidly, but he opted for Majerus. We then moved on to Justin Hamilton and I think we got a better player instead. If we had a scholarship to offer, I wonder if McDermott would still be interested? He did not get the minutes I would have thought at St Louis last year.

Brett Thompson is reportedly transferring to Southeastern Louisiana..
they are in the Southland Conference, and pretty characteristically land in the 250RPI area.
Most of the Southland finishes below .500.

One nice thing for Brett & his family, though....
if they have any hats, t-shirts, or apparel that says "SLU", then they can still wear it!

ISU's interest in Thompson ended with the firing of Moser. Moser is the main reason he went to SLU and had Moser been retained he might have been a Redbird. Jank wasn't interested.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

Anyone who saw him get owned by UNI's O'Rear a couple of years ago should have seen this coming. O'Rear was a senior and Thompson a Jr. but Thompson was way behind as far as development.

Now the site that reported Brett Thompson was transferring to Southeastern Louisiana has retracted that report-

Apparently, Thompson is now considering Southern Indiana and Murray State.

another bad break for Saint Louis--
returning junior guard Paul Eckerle just sustained a serious knee injury, possibly out for the year.

Former Billiken Brett Thompson Transfers To Lindenwood
Lindenwood University men??™s basketball head coach Brad Soderberg announced today that Brett Thompson has signed to transfer to Lindenwood from NCAA Division I Saint Louis University.

???I am really excited for a chance to coach Brett,??? said Soderberg. ???I recruited him heavily while I was at Saint Louis University. He is a great kid and a skilled big man. He has an excellent basketball IQ and can score from the three-point line in. He is the perfect piece for what I already inherited at Lindenwood.???

Thompson, a 6??™10??? center from Vienna, Ill., started seven games and appeared in 30 contests as a true freshman for the Billikens. He was the second leading blocker on the team with 16 for the year. He averaged 2.0 points and 2.5 rebounds and 11.4 minutes of playing time a game. Thompson scored a season-high eight points against Samford, pulled down a season-high six boards against Savannah State, and had a season-best three blocks versus Kent State.

Thompson is the top basketball player to come out of Vienna High School where he set school records with 1,776 career points and 1,008 career rebounds. As a senior, he averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks. He was named first-team All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, was a McDonald??™s All-American nominee, and was rated as the No. 18 center in the nation by Rivals.com. As a junior, Thompson earned honorable mention All-State honors and led Vienna to a conference championship.

Interesting. I think Thompson had D1 ability and would have gotten scholarship offers. Lindenwood University is an NAIA school in St. Charles, Missouri, so he will be able to play this year.
