This summer should be a little more eventful for the Bradley basketball team than most summers. The 1st summer session started this past week, and we have reports that many of the Bradley players, including some of the incoming freshmen players are back in Peoria.
This year, because of Bradley's trip to Brazil in August, the team will be allowed 10 practice sessions prior to their departure. The dates for the Brazil trip have not been announced yet, but rumor is that it will be in the first half of the month of August to avoid any missed classroom time.
So look for the 10 practice sessions to begin in July.
NCAA rules do not allow incoming freshmen to go on early foreign tours prior to the beginning of the fall semester, so Jake Eastman, Milos Knezevic, Jordan Prosser, and Dyricus Simms-Edwards will have to stay home in August. However, they can still scrimmage with the rest of the team for the summer.
By the way- Many schools have toured Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Europe, and Australia, but we have not been able to find that any Division I men's basketball team has recently made such a trip to Brazil.
Division III Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team toured Brazil and played against Brazilian teams in August, 2007.
The article reports that the players had to raise most of the cost of their travel themselves.
And in August, 2008, the women's basketball team from the University of St. Thomas (Division III in St. Paul, Minnesota) toured Brazil.-
A number of schools at all levels have sent teams to Brazil for tours in other sports, such as soccer and men's and women's volleyball.
Here are a few-
Last summer, a team comprised of high-school players and sponsored by Nike toured Brazil.-
But perhaps the earliest reference of a college team travelling to Brazil was this reference of BYU making a trip to Brazil with their basketball team in 1950!-
