  • Northern Iowa picks up another point guard

University of Northern Iowa picked up a verbal committment from another point guard. Mike Bizoukas, a 6'0", 160 lb. PG from Munster, Indiana high school, chose UNI over interest from Evansville, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Loyola, SIU, Nebraska, Northeastern, St. Bonaventure, and UW-Green Bay. Just over the weekend he told an Indiana high school hoops expert that he would wait until after the University of Indiana elite camp. Indiana had expressed some interest and he wanted to wait check it out.
He averaged 16 ppg as a junior.

I'd be nervous if I were UNI. Verbals aren't rock solid coming out of the State of Indiana with IU's Sampson lurking.

UNI appears loaded with guards, especially point guards for the next few years.
They have returning point guard Brooks McKowan as a senior this year.
Kwadzo Ahelegbe, one of their top 2006 recruits, is a point guard. He is from the same Minnesota high school that Erik Crawford was from. He will be a freshman this season.
Stephen Jones is another class of 2006 recruit who will be a freshman this season. He was a Class A All-State point guard from Bethalto Civic Memorial high school, in Bethalto, Illinois.
Brian Haak- a recruited walkon. He will be a sophomore this year, and some expected would be awarded a scholarship after his walkon season. He should play more this season.
Jared Josten- a 5'11 point guard who will be a junior this year. He averaged over 8 assists a game in high school, and appeared in all 33 games this past season as a sophomore.
Adam Viet- another guard who was a high scorer in high school, but has played very little at UNI. He only appeared in 13 games last season and will be a junior.

Other guards- Travis Brown should see more time at the off-guard position as a sophomore, now that Ben Jacobson, John Little, and Eric Crawford have graduated. They also have a couple more off-guards coming, in class of 2006 recruit Kerwin Dunham, and Iowa transfer Carlton Reed (will be eligible in 2007). UNI looks to be very deep at the guard position, which they always are.
