In addition to Missouri State maybe losing one of their incoming basketball recruits to a baseball career
there's a few more items in the news.........
--remember UNI basketball player Lucas O'Rear, who also went out for baseball at UNI and was a pretty good pitcher...
well, since UNI is dropping baseball, if O'Rear still wants to play baseball, he'd have to transfer...
Many UNI fans are already convinced he is as good as gone, and this is offered as more evidence...
that O'Rear has joined a collegiate summer baseball team and won't be playing any basketball this summer.
Lucas has only appeared in one game thus far for the Honkers, but he pitched a perfect inning in relief for the Honkers to close out a 6-2 loss to the LaCrosse Loggers, striking out 1.
Here's what Lucas says...........
"They had it (baseball at UNI) for 103, 105 years and then they drop it," O'Rear said.
"That's one reason I went there; I wanted to play both."
"That's what me and my family are trying to decide," O'Rear said of his sports future.
"If I can get a good scholarship (to another school) and the program can help me,
I'll go there. If not I'll go back (to UNI) to play basketball."
There is a summer league (Prime Time League) that UNI players play in along with Iowa, Drake, and other college kids.
They held their draft...
UNI's Adam Koch was drftaed 3rd behind Iowa's Matt Gatens & Jarryd Cole..
Erid Coleman was drafted 5th and Devan Bawinkle was drafted in the 4th round behind Upper Iowa's Matt Lesan.
Teams are limited as to how many players from the same college team they can have. Games start June 15.
and something for the ISU fans, as I guess boys will be boys...
a few of the Redbirds are off to a great time having fun this summer and are keeping the Bloomington-Normal police busy.
Here's just a few of the guys who have court dates this month or the past couple weeks...nothing major, but definitely continuing a trend of a lot of court activity...
Kellen Thornton - due in court June 8, & July 20
Landon Shipley - May 27
another one for Brandon Holtz - July 1
Bobby Hill..June 15
and Emmanuel Holloway - June 11
Remember the Jerry Tarkanian quote...
"The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky that they'll probably slap another two years' probation on Cleveland State"?
Well here's an article that says that's exactly what the NCAA is thinking in this USC thing....
but it's the USC basketball program that'll get slapped while the football program, although much dirtier, will get off free while nobody's looking...
