Does it seem like it's been that long?
Maybe this event didn't affect all of you, but I know a lot of people who were profoundly affected...

    It happened July 13, 2004, mid-afternoon

    the wind did this...

This picture taken from the parking lot of Geiser Ford in Roanoke on that afternoon (this is 4 miles away)

This one was taken from a bit closer

Everything on the ground was sucked up

That was one powerful storm... but nothing compared to the trouble you can cause T with all the anti-BU fans (and the "REAL" BU fans).

yea...I am surprised they didn't blame me for this, as I seem to get blamed for every problem some people have...

I had the chance to speak to the shift supervisor who was in charge of the 150 employees that day, and he is humbled by both the grace that God showed in sparing everyone in the midst of that destruction, and also in the accolades he received that he is somehow a hero.
He felt he simply did exactly as their storm/disaster plan called for and just as any good employer would have done, and yet his prompt actions did save numerous lives.

Again...this is exactly what the entire factory looked like...and this is precisely where all the workers were just a few minutes before the major portion of the storm hit...
those are 14 inch structural I-beams that are bent like pretzels........

I was flying over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter when this happened. We got back to the helicopter tour office in Vegas and everybody was watching the tv and talking about a huge tornado near Peoria, Illinois. We were kind of shocked, and immediately started trying to call friends and family here.

Saw a show a few weeks ago on the weather channel. It featured a walk thru of the new Parsons building and showed how the tornado shelters are much bigger now. They also moved a lot of the administrative offices inside the "tornado shelters".

today is the 5th anniversary of this event that affected a bunch of people where I work...maybe most of you were elsewhere, but the worst of this big storm missed my business by about 2 miles.
