  • The 2006 NBA Draft

Just for the sake of conversation, let's flash back three years to June 2006...

Patrick O'Bryant was picked 9th and has spent 3 years on an NBA contract....
but looking back at drafts and who picked who is always interesting...

At the top of the 2006 draft, are an interesting mix of picks, some who have flopped and some who have not.

The top pick, Andrea Bargnani, is three years into his NBA career and is a solid player, but not having the career that some of the players selected behind him are having...

Pick #2 in 2006 was LaMarcus Aldridge, who has become an All Star caliber player.

But pick #3 was Adam Morrison...who has really struggled, and hasn't paid off for anyone. He's in the NBA Finals with the Lakers, but he won't play.

Then Tyrus Thomas and Shelden Williams...neither of whom has lived up to potential.

But the real steals of the 2006 draft were
#6 pick Brandon Roy - who is an emerging superstar for Portland and may be the best pick thus far in this draft.
#7 Randy Foye - ditto for Minnesota
#8 Rudy Gay - already the best player on Memphis
#21 Rajon Rondo - a key piece of Boston's success
..and even #42 Daniel Gibson, who was 12th pick in round 2, but is a key sub for Cleveland.

In the 2007 draft, the 35th pick, Glen (Big Baby) Davis, who landed with Boston, has become a fine addition.

I have to disagree a little on Thomas. He might as of today lived up to 4th draft expectations but he has each season improved and I really beleive he will play many years and in the next few will be a very strong NBA player, infact Ill go out and say he will make atleast one All Star team in the next 5 years.

Davis is the absolute still of that draft.

if you were the Bulls and could have your pick over or trade Thomas for anyone who was below your #4 pick, wouldn't you take Roy, Rondo, or Davis?

But there are no do overs, so they have what they have and I bet any Blazer fan would say if they had it to do all over they would have gone with Jordan instead of Bowie.

I just do not think Thomas is such a huge bust for a number 4 pick at what 21 or 22 after 3 seasons in the NBA.

But to answer your question I would want either Rondo or Roy but I do not think Id want or choose Davis right now over Thomas.

what has davis done...not alot sure he hit the game winner against orlando but if KG is healthy davis is most likely on the bench then davis hasnt done anything in the reguler season..one playoff shot doesnt make him anything so far

Would have been nice if the Bulls had just kept LaMarcus Aldrige, though to be fair Portland also gave us Victor Khrypa, what a stellar deal
