    Coincidence -- you decide...

now the Florida Gulf Coast women's basketball program picks up a verbal commitment from the sister of Shaumburg's Cully Payne.
I think this is the Kavanagh effect...he is helping them land better players already......

And so the exit of KK (coupled with V H-B as interim) got the verbal from Alyson Spinas-Valainis?

Interesting news on the KK front...

the previous interim AD who Ken Kavanagh beat out as one of the finalists for the current AD spot, Jo-Ann Nester, was originally kept on as assistant AD to help in the transition, but now, just 3 months into KK's tenure, Nester leaves to take a top spot at another college.

KK's words are, as always, quite gracious towards the departing Nester...
"we are sad to lose her talents and enthusiasm that are so valued each day.
She has contributed greatly to the numerous successes in FGCU Athletics.."

BTW-- note that Nester also has some extremely nice words to say about Ken....
odd how these comments conflict with some who tried to paint a different picture of what it is like working under KK.
"I wish Ken all the best," Nester said. "He's going to do a really good job here.
He has the best interest of this program and of this university in mind. I found it
very easy to work with him. It's not about Ken, that's for sure. Ken's been very good,
very understanding. He's been supportive in this process. But only one of us could be AD, and it's Ken.

"I want to be an AD, finish my career as an athletic director, and this particular situation
is a really good one for me,""

I recall St. Anselm, a tiny school in New Hampshire, might just be familiar to some BU fans...
It was in 1982, when Dick Versace blasted NCAA selection committee head Dave Gavitt and used St. Anselm to point out the terrible schedule Boston College had, when BC was given an at-large bid over BU and BU was relegated to the NIT.
Here's a nice read on the whole travesty...

Boston College had a pretty solid backcourt in 1982. I knew Michael Adams played there, but didn't realize that John Bagley was his back court mate that year.

I don't disagree they were good, but Versace thought BU was better (I did and still do as well), and the fact that Gavitt was closely tied to BC made it even harder to swallow that BU got relegated to the NIT...when we played such a far superior schedule.

Oh, I agree, I was just sayin that I didn't realize they had Adams and Bagley at the same time. In fact I didn't even realize Bagley attended Boston College.

If I'm right Gary Williams might have been the coach!

No. Gary Williams was coach at American, who Bradley played and beat in the 1982 NIT.

Boston College was indeed the likely last team into the then-48 team NCAA field.

Tom Davis was the head coach at Boston College, and they reached the Elite 8, losing to Houston.

The Final Four that year included Houston, Louisville, North Carolina, and Georgetown.

And for the record, BU probably was better than BC that year. However, you can't complain about BU not getting in without pointing out BC did to an extent vindicate their selection.

When did Williams coach at BC squirrel? I could have sworn 1982 was his first year there.

                      He did coach there, right?

As Houston pointed out, Williams did coach at BC.

The 1982 postseason was at the end of the 1981-82 college basketball season.

Gary Williams was at American through that season. He led the Eagles to the 1982 NIT, where they lost to Bradley in the first round.

Tom Davis coached BC through that season. After leading the Eagles to the 1982 Elite Eight, Davis was hired to coach at Stanford.

                          Williams replaced Davis.
