  • Is sticks gonna come out his shell this year and produce?

just a a general question, how does everyone feel about sticks, is he gonna come out and produce or will he become a career reserve. I have not been impressed, I hope Im wrong.
Lets surrender ..... Chesty Puller.... "H*$$ NO !!! we have the enemy right where we want them they can't hide"

I'm gonna stick with sticks. Infact, I predict he will lead the team in rebounding this year, and be a major force in the Valley.

I was thinking of starting a thread like this myself.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to grow and expand into a 6-10 body. When I was growing up it took me until my sophmore year in HS to get the coordination all together and I was just growing into a 6-2 body. I just kept running, lifting weights, playing basketball, swimming and golfing. It finally came together.

It just may be that it takes longer for bigger players, that might be why teams like UNC and Duke go out and get as many bigs as they can and stockpile them at the end of bench for a few years.

I don't know. But I am expecting big things from AT when it all comes together And from everything I've seen and read, he looks like a great kid.
I'm glad he has stayed with us

The only problem with Sticks is Sticks. If he wants to be good, he will be. I'm not sure he wants to be good.

I assume that JL and the coaches see things in practice that most of us don't see and this relates to sticks not playing much. The old addage "you play like you practice" is very true .
The key to AT is for him to add 30+ lbs., gain much upper body strength without losing quickness, improve his footwotk, and learn how to use his newfound size in the post. This may be a real challange for our trainers and coaches.
He has three years left so let's hope they are successful in this "project".

If AT can improve to where he gives Bradley a few decent possessions a half as a sophomore, I'll be happy. It looks like he is the third center on the depth chart. The season doesn't hinge on him unless a couple guys go down to injury.

It seems like the center position is the weak link of the team next year. You know what you are getting from Sam Singh. You kinda have an idea of the player that Will Egolf can be if he stays healthy. Then, there is this hope that Anthony Thompson can do something. If he can rebound or play defense, he'll make BU a better team.

I think your right here BB. I thought the same thing about DC. After watching AT in limited time last year there may be more of a problem than the weight issue. This is not a knock, but being 6'10 or 7' doe's not mean you are a player or for that matter want to be! We've seen it before! Even if this year is not his coming out, he has two more! Not giving up on him but we have some bigs this year that I think he will have to improve/play some pretty good ball to get playing time! Who ever plays, I just want to see a couple bigs at a time in the game and see our post game be much better. This will lead to better guard play and shot selection!
No way will we sit the bigs we have this year I don't care how many guards we have To win the conf. or finish higher than 4th or 5th you have to have a strong inside game

Egolf, Singh, Brown, and Prosser are all better than Sticks and will give us more next year. Until proven otherwise, Sticks is a bust. I place most of that blame on Sticks for showing little desire to get better in practice or in the weight room. A coach can only do so much. At some point the onus is on the player to want to get better.

Very true BradleyBrave. I ,as well as everyone here, hate to write Sticks off as a bust until proven otherwise. I did some stupid things when I was AT's age, hopefully AT is smarter than me!

WoW, that one got some interesting comments !!!!

Heres what I think, sticks has the tools , JL is a good coach and motivator. I think it all comes down to Sticks, is he going to have a David Collins work ethic? Then I think he will have a long three years. if he even stays. However if he shows up with a Jeremy Crouch attitude then the sky is the limit for this young man. You cant coach love of the game or desire !!! I think we will know sometime in November

I am not sure about Collins's work ethic but to have a chisled body like Collins Id venture to guess his work ethic wasnt to bad. He just didnt have a very good basketball game.

Apparently for Thompson it is about desire. I dont think it is to often a basketball player doesnt have desire, sometimes a senior can get Seniorites but I think most basketball players beleive so much in themselves desire is not often questioned. In Thompsons case, from what we were told and read he got real lazy.. ie not going to workouts, skipping weights and generally not really getting into basketball.

It happens and from my experience it often happens when a guy gets involved with a woman. I have no idea if this is the case but an athlete can lose a lot of focus when his focus is off the court on a lady.

I hope he is working hard this summer, putting back on the weight he lost and finds some basketball desire.

Personally, I expect nothing from AT this year. I'm far more optimistic about what Egolf, Prosser, and Brown can bring down low.
Thompson will be entering his third year in a D-I program, and he has yet to play a meaningful minute, he hasn't shown much of a commitment off the court to improve himself physically, and from all accounts, hasn't shown much of a desire to change that.
People grow up, people revalue things in their lives, so anything is possible...but I don't see too much reason for optimism about AT at this point. Nice kid, doesn't appear to place too much of a priority on his basketball career for the time being. We'll see if he has a desire to change that.
