  • Nebraska Head Coaching Job

Late Saturday, Nebraska's top choice to replace their departing head coach, Barry Collier, said NO.
Mark Fox has decided to stay at Nevada, and Nebraska will have to turn to someone else.
Already rumored scheduled for interviews are Kent State's Jim Christian, UTEP's Doc Sadler, and George Washington's Karl Hobbs.

    But here's a strange twist...
Last March, cbssportsline's Gregg Doyel named New Mexico's Ritchie McKay as a likely candidate to be hired by Nebraska, because of a prior relationship with the Nebraska AD.

One article this morning has McKay giving his answer saying he won't make the move.
There is no word on whether McKay has actually been offered the job.
McKay's career record at UNM is roughly the same as Barry Collier's record at Nebraska.

ESPN is reporting that Doc Sadler, currently the head coach at UTEP (for the past 2 seasons), will be named the new head coach at Nebraska.

UTEP coach Doc Sadler was scheduled to fly to Lincoln Monday for what could be the final step in the second-year Miners coach being named the head coach at Nebraska, multiple sources told ESPN.com.

The exodus has begun, as Nebraska's top player, a 6-11 center,
Aleks Maric who made All Big XII last year as a soph, will leave and will not return to Nebraska.

It is being reported that he's "so disturbed by the departure of Nebraska men's basketball coach Barry Collier".
He averaged 11pt, 8 rebs as a soph, and has said he may transfer to another university or he may go to Europe and begin a pro career.
          Might he transfer to Butler?

I want to know if Gary Parrish can confirm this the the hire he was referring to to take Nebraska to the next level.

Now that Doc Sadler has taken the Nebraska job, UTEP is looking for a replacement.
They are being secretive about who they have talked to.
But ESPN is reporting that they might have contacted Kansas assistant Tim Jankovich.
Jankovich was also an assistant at Illinois under Bill Self.

UTEP athletic director Bob Stull interviewed a flurry of candidates Friday in Dallas and is expected to meet with one more Saturday before possibly choosing a new men's basketball coach Sunday afternoon, multiple sources told ESPN.com Friday night.

UTEP hired Tony Barbee, an assistant from Memphis

Less than a week after Doc Sadler abruptly left UTEP to be the head coach at Nebraska, the Miners will hire Memphis assistant Tony Barbee to replace him, sources close to the search told ESPN.com Sunday.

Could this have a remote bearing on Derrick Rose's decision?
Barbee was reportedly Calipari's top recruiter at Memphis, which is one reason he's getting the Nebraska job.

New head coach at UTEP Tony Barbee, as new coaches do, is apparently freeing up some scholarships.
Two little used players have left the program.

Speaking of Nebraska.... here is a bit of news that's relevant to the Huskers' basketball team--

Prized recruit Roburt Sallie was denied eligibility to play this season at Nebraska. Here is the story. He finished high school in California 2 years ago as a highly rated recruit and was given a scholarship to Washington. But he didn't qualify and spent the last 2 years at 2 different North Carolina prep schools (one at Laurinburg Prep and one at the Patterson School ). The 2-prep-schools-in-one-year scenario is one that the NCAA is coming down hard against. Sallie has met the NCAA's minimum grade requirements and the minimum college entrance exam score, but that wasn't good enough for the boys (and girls) at the NCAA. They apparently requested Sallie provide actual "documentation of course work taken nearly two years ago, seeking such things as teacher gradebooks or actual tests and homework assignments" from some of his courses 2 years ago at Laurinburg Prep. He has hired a lawyer to fight this, but they now admit it is futile. Sounds familiar.

Roburt was one of my recruits two years ago.Good kid bad student but has supposedly worked pretty hard to get eligible. He comes to play at Yuba in the off season and is extremely talented. That is a big loss for the huskers!

ps-X is working very hard! He needs to put on about 25 pounds though and funds are low. Anyone with the desire to send some weight gainer and protein powder just send it to the school with my name on it.(JK but not really)

But COACH, if we send stuff to XC, we might be guilty of providing "extra benefits".
