They cannot practice with the coach until way into October! Do you think the scrimmages without the coach would be better then with JL and also heading to another country to practice and play different teams?

I agree SFP. I would take game experience any day over practice...
Going to a foreign country is an added plus at several levels for the team.
      Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Taking the trip is a NO brainer to me. Have fun guys......how many college kids get that experience?

I remember when I was in the Army, I had like 5 shots in one day during basic training! I hope our boys will be taking some of them before traveling to South America.

Can't live life in a bubble....or I guess they could stay home and "only" worry about the swine flu. These are young healthy 20 year old kids that, with basic reasonable precautions, have a very SMALL risk of getting infected.

Go...have fun...gain valuable life experiences and remember to wash your hands.

the CDC routinely recommends getting the vaccine for yellow fever, which will protect travelers in that area of the world.
They may also have to take malarial prophylaxis and update other vaccinations.

I just really hope that this tour allows for some decent competition. I really am not concerned that the team is taking a trip, I am concerned that when we do play we are not playing against High Schoolers or men over 40.

I think it is a little odd that Brazil is the choice of this tour. Mostly because of the length of any flight and the issues with visa's and the need for Yellow Fever shots.

But overall it will be an amazing learning experience and will hopefully bring this team together. Though the trip to Canada was in some circles blamed for the end of season collapse.

I'm still dumb founded by the resistance for these guys to travel a bit. There is more to life then basketball and if these guys have the chance to travel under watchful eyes and play a little ball why is there such an Igor like premonition? I wish I had nothing but time and money to travel where my heart desired and Brazil would be one of those places! This will be a great learning experience and hopefully it will be well worth the effort. I thought my mother was cautious.

Anyone remember this past BU player who is Brazillian:

                      Marcel de Souza

I think he played for Stowell for one year in the 70's.

Yes. Besides Hersey, he was the only other former BU player to play basketball in the Olympics (80,84,88,and 92).

I remember Marcel, he was 6'8" and a very good bb player for Coach Stowell and I am hoping Coach can make the trip for a possible reunion. Can't remember how we got him or how many years we had him though.

The story I remember is that Coach Stowell had travelled to Brazil a year or 2 before Marcel came to Bradley, to teach at a basketball clinic. Somehow, through the connections he made in Brazil, he became aware of Marcel and offered a scholarship to play at Bradley. Marcel stayed at Bradley only 1 year.

I plead guilty to being a worrywart, that's just my nature, but it doesn't stop me from traveling. I've traveled to many interesting places, once the travel starts I forget about worrying. I'm sure they are going to have a great time. But I'll say it again, why go play basketball in Brazil when you can play it within walking distance. To me, it just doesn't seem necessary. There will be pleanty of time for travel during the pre-season and conference season and NCAA Tournament

I dont think it really is that much about basketball, its about bonding, exploring this world, and having an opportunity to meet new people from a completely different culture. I want us to play good competition but it is probably more important for this team to grow as young men and come together as a group.
