  • NCAA Announces Major Penalties Against...(could it be OJ Mayo?)

Nope...it isn't OJ Mayo...it's yet another small mid-major, Alabama State...

BUT check below...the evidence against OJ Mayo is becoming undeniable!!!

But, let's really nail Alabama State, after all, they are really cheating, right??/
Strong penalties...scholarship reduction, post-season bans, severe, severe penalties against the coaching staff...effectively prohibiting them from working again, and even the vacating and forfeiting of their wins!!
this combination is about as severe of penalties we have seen in a long time!!!
Far worse than anything any big school has experienced in at least 3 decades!!

    and what was their violation??
Impermissable benefits...roughly the same amount as Kansas Darnell Jackson received.....that got them only probation and they went on with the players they cheated to get and won a national championship.

BUT--- their violations pale in comparison to what's been demonstrated already at USC with tens of thousands and even HUNDREDS of thousands of impermissable benefits there given to Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo...

In fact the evidence against OJ Mayo have now gotten even stronger...and just maybe...after years of blatant cheating...the NCAA may be FORCED to check into this and actually act!!
Sources: NCAA investigators appear to be building case that football and men's basketball programs lacked institutional control, failed to monitor.

I know many do not want any government intervention when it comes to the NCAA but something MUST be done about the complete lack of fairness when it comes to punishment that the NCAA gives out.

You have an Alabama State who cheats essentially equal to the cheating done by Kansas State and both received completely different penalties. You have USC who has been under investigation by the NCAA for 3 years with absolutely no outcome. How many investigations regardless of the nature take 3+ years. It is very obvious the NCAA has zero interest in penalizing USC and I would not be surprised to see another Yahoo article in 2 years and it mentions that the NCAA is in the middle of a 5 year investigation into USC.

The NCAA needs oversight bigtime. Personally I think a school like Alabama State should sue the NCAA, or someone needs to sue this organization.

Life I know is not always fair but the NCAA has taken the life is not fair to a completely different level and they are completely out of control well they are controled by the $$$$ that is all it cares about.

I agree...if Alabama State broke the rules, then penalize them...but fairly and according to the severity of their offenses....
which certainly didn't allow them to amass 5-Star talent and win a national title, as the cheating at Oklahoma, Indiana, UConn, Kansas, and USC clearly is intended to do.

those "big boys" cheated all the more severely and chronically, even while some were on probation -- than Alabama State did,
and yet their penalties were miniscule, and the players like Darnell Jackson, OJ Mayo, Reggie Bush, Eric Gordon, and Hasheem Thabeet, etc...
that they were allowed to land while they were cheating, were then allowed to play there and make the universities TONS of money
and get to Finals Fours, and gain HUGE future recruiting advantages, none of which have been nor ever will be addressed by the NCAA,
as that's the way they actually like it!!
All this cheating by the big boys makes the NCAA even more money and keeps the little guys out of the Final Fours!!!

      typical conversation at NCAA--
"how dare Bradley (or Alabama State) land a 7-footer with NBA talent, we have to put an end to it and find something to nail them for..."
"while we're at it, SEMO has improved a bit and might actually win a couple games this year, let's knock them into the dark ages with some really swift penalties"
"also....you guys hear the stuff going on at IU, UConn, and USC? Let's pretend it's not happening until we're forced to act, then we'll give them a
few more years of probation, that should make it look like we've done our job...and most of the media will just play along...now if we can only silence those message board posters...."

I think it's more of a matter of the NCAA unfairly protecting the big boys - they punish the small schools so that outsiders can come in and see the NCAA saying, "see, we're policing everyone".

It's getting pulled over for doing 15 over in your car while the driver right ahead of you was also doing 15 over. It's definitely unfair, although to call it a case of the NCAA overreaching to punish the little guys is probably a little incorrect. It's not like the schools actually getting punished are innocent.

The NCAA can't be sued effectively while the NAIA is in existence.
          Can we start winning soon?

Could the NCAA be sued by a member institution because of the way the NCAA hands out its penalties? Essentially a pattern of penalties against certain schools IE smaller(non BCS) or even historic Black Universities?

You would have a tough time showing evidence that is biased towards NON BCS schools and then, greater yet, that the bias and lesser charges were done intentionally.

My brother is taking a course in law school called "NCAA and the law" and he asked his professor (Former NCAA attorney) this exact question on my behalf. According to the professor because the option exists for memeber orgainizations leave the NCAA and go to the NAIA this type of lawsuit would be almost impossible to win.

The NIT sued the NCAA several years ago over their post season tournament, and the way the NCAA distributes their revenues. It was thought that the NIT had a solid case and stood to win a sizeable judgement against the NCAA. So the NCAA bought out the NIT to make the suit disappear.

Tornado, do you really believe in all this conspiracy stuff you bring up? There is no way that much X-Files type stuff is going on at the NCAA offices.

The most outlandish thing is to think that the NCAA cares about message board posters. The only people who really care a ton about message board posters are, well, message board posters.

And SOME coaches and SOME in the "real" media.....I agree about the X-files stuff but I know for a fact many coaches HATE message boards.

Actually I think the media is coming around to recognize that message boards aren't ALL "pure evil" and many have accepted the boards and posters as a reality and are realizing they are are here to stay.

I don't disagree that people realize they are here to stay. I'm also not saying they don't have some relevance. They do. I'm not saying they don't have a place. They do. But message board posters are a very small minority of any teams fan base. A vocal minority? Absolutely. But a small percentage none the less.

Bradley gets 10,000 fans a game. How many post on the message board/boards? 40-50? That is a minute number. I have about 10-15 close BU alum/friends. Only two of those post on a board.

I don't think the NCAA is worried about what message board posters say about them. That was my original point.

Like Dick Versace or not, when he told it like it was after Bradley was left out of the NCAA in 1982, IMO they were out to get Bradley and him. After the 32-3 season was the perfect time for them. What DV supposedly did was minor compared to what other coaches have done.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Oh I agree and understood your point. In NO way am I trying to pump up or over value message boards in any way shape or form.

Simply pointing out probably something you allready new in that many coaches and people close to various programs aren't real anamored with some of the cr@p (untruths) posted on boards.

I also think that many in the "real" media dispised or even still dispise mesage boards but some are starting to accept and even acknowledge them.
