  • Kan Kavanagh Appreciation Thread

    It's been said before...

But I will say it again....

Ken Kavanagh is not only a fine person and a great guy to know and have as a friend, but he is also one of the top people in his profession, and has done a great job at Bradley.
He and his family will be greatly missed, and I know many of the posters will join me in wishing him and his family well in the future.

I was on campus from 97-01, when KK was just getting comfortable on the hilltop. When I earned media credentials in 1999, he was always very honest in his interviews and between KK and Bobby Parker, I got what I needed.

KK will be missed... let's hope that his replacement embraces the history and traditions of BU like KK did.

Bravo, Ken... we appreciate all you have done. Good luck and God Bless.

Ken is very well appreciated by the Bradley fans. I never heard him say a bad thing about anyone, and he has never failed to help any fan who asked his help. We'll miss him, but I am happy for him and his family. Good luck Ken!

I couldn't be happier for KK.

I was in SW Fla for Bradley's trip to FGCU this last thanksgiving and KK set us up with tix to our victory over Richmond. He couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

What a beautiful place FGCU is for KK and his family. It is not a traditional university environment that we are used to with 100 year old buildings. The campus is obviously very new, but well laid out and very attractive. And of course SW Florida is well...awesome.

Best of luck KK...once a Brave always a Brave.

I never really had the chance to talk to Ken Kavanagh until the tailgate at a soccer game last year. Needless to say, I came away very impressed.
What a quality person! Best of luck to KK at FGCU.

                Ken Kavanagh

Over the years, I have had many dealings with Ken. He was always a class guy, honest, responsive, hard working, and an asset to Bradley and the entire Peoria community.
This is a loss to BU. Let's hope the Pres. can do nearly as well when she selects a replacement.

More really nice press for Ken...

Even one of the guys who lost...one of the FGCU finalists who was beat out by Ken Kavanagh says this about how good of a job the FGCU one is...

"University of Maine athletic director Blake James....
was informed by Bradshaw of the decision earlier in the day, said Thursday evening the FGCU opportunity was a good one and the experience positive.
“I think it’s a great situation that they have there, a very promising future, and that had a lot to do with my interest [in the position].”

"I had an interest in the (Florida Gulf Coast) program...
James said Thursday. "And recognizing it is a great institution with a lot of room for growth."

and the job listing.........."is no longer available on Florida Gulf Coast University"

Here was the original listing ....
                  "Athletic Director
Florida Gulf Coast University - Fort Myers, FL
Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), a vibrant and growing public institution in Southwest Florida,
invites applications, nominations and inquiries for the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (AD).
FGCU features the only NCAA Division I athletic program in Southwest Florida. As a young university
valuing innovation and the pursuit of academic excellence, FGCU is seeking an energetic, visionary
and strong leader with proven strategic planning ability to advance the University's athletics program.
The new AD will be experienced and knowledgeable; someone who is both innovator and entrepreneur,
and an individual who fully appreciates the concept of the student-athlete within a rising Division I context.
The AD will lead a Division I program with the highest standards of academics."

sounds like they got the RIGHT person, and the right hire!!!

My encounters with KK have been more through emails than face-to-face, but every one of them was pleasant and helpful. I think he represented BU very well, and will be missed by all who knew him and worked with him.

We shared a laugh one day when he realized that our initials were the same. So...from one KK to another, good luck at FGCU and thanks for all you did at BU!

I had a chance to talk to Ken K. today, and he will miss Bradley and all the great Bradley fans, too. He is sorry to be leaving, and really cherishes his time at Bradley, and would have much preferred to have stayed here.

Thanks, Ken! I have nothing but great respect for all the work you did at Bradley and your openness to talk about anything and with anyone. Your integrity was outstanding as was your loyalty to BU. We will miss you.

Best wishes at Florida Gulf Coast!
