Sun Ming-Ming is playing for the Dodge City Legends of the USBL in Kansas. The 23-year old China native picked up basketball just 5 years ago and had a brain tumor removed just last year. He suffers pituitary gigantism caused by a pituitary tumor. Unfortunately, since he is playing for a professional team, he would not be eligible to play college ball.

I have seen film on this guy. He is a giant, no doubt. Unfortunately for him, he is very, very slow, and really doesn't have much basketball skill. He suffers from the same ailment Robert Wadlow, Andre the Giant, and other 'giants' suffer from. Hopefully with his surgery he is able to lead a normal, healthy life.
    Onward and Upward!

Oprah just did a report on her TV show of this guy.
He is from Harbin, China the same city that Shang Ping is from.

I've been to Harbin as it is in the far northern region of China near Siberia. It is very, very cold there in the winter, but they make the best of it by having an amazing ice and snow festival. Go here for pictures from the 2005 festival:

If you are interested in trying out a new and popular sport this winter, read on. This guide will tell you all you need to know about the world of downhill skiing.

Here is a story on the 7-9 Ming
It says he still has hopes of playing in the NBA, but concedes he can only play about 5 minutes per game because of his illness (pituitary tumor and excess growth hormone - the same thing that caused severe debility in Andre the Giant.)

Here is another followup story on Ming, who was also the subject of a documentary on The Learning Chnnel about his illness.
