  • Tyler Les

Okay, I keep seeing Tyler's name being brought up on the board, and I am aware of his situation coming in to play for his dad and not having to use a scholarship. Anyway, my question is how good is Tyler? I know he played on a pretty good ND team last year, but there is quite a bit of talent on it other than him. So is Tyler a MVC type of player? My impression was that he is a low-major prospect, but some of you are thinking he is going to be playing point guard significantly in the future.

So is Tyler a D-1 MVC player or is he a Phillips/Lavin type of talent?? Do you expect him to contribute significantly on the floor during games over his career at Bradley??

Yeah...I've been in college for a while now and I'm pretty sure that awesomest is not a word. -Andrew E.

I saw him play at the Markin Center with J.P.& D.S.E. and in the 2 games I saw he looked better than D.S.E..

He can handle the ball great and has a great outside shot.

His foot speed is not great, he reminded me of his dad. How could that be bad?

Brian lavin doesn't remind me of his dad.

It's a little ridiculous for us couch-potatoes here to pronounce whether a kid who is a junior in high school is D1 material or not. I have seen Tyler play a number of times, and he will get D1 interest and D1 offers. He is a Johnny Moran-type player, who will be a very good shooter at the next level.

I'm certainly no expert, but I'd say he's better than Lavin/Phillips. With Phillips, you have a kid who is playing an entirely different position than he played in high school. Phillips was playing the 4 for Richwoods.

I will say, however, that Tyler really hasn't done a whole lot to differentiate himself from the other guards in his class from the MS-5. Is he really that much better than Marvin Jordan, Nick Rochford, Mason Alwan, Aaron Davis, Tylon Deal, and Tony Banks? None of these players are going to play D-1 basketball.

Is he on an AAU team this summer? If so, probably with Nick Rochfords team. My guess is that he will start to get some D-1 attention over the summer. Guys who can flat out shoot the three with high B-ball IQ's are always good to have on your team.

Why is it ridiculous?..Because it's JL's son? Heck that's all I ever see on here is people's opinion's on whether or not HS juniors are D-1 material

Not from me. I leave that up to experts.

It has nothing to do with who's son he is. It's ridiculous because the kid is only a junior, and is being evaluated and deemed not worthy of a D1 scholarship by people who would have said the same thing about Sam Maniscalco or Johnny Moran at the same points in their careers.

Tyler can be a D-1 player. He will have to improve his quickness and strength. Which I believe he will do....he is hoops savy and has a great shot...can handle the ball fairly well too.....I doubt he will be a point guard though in college...that would be a waste of his shooting ability....he was slowed last year by injuries to his feet and ankles...I am thinking he is much like Jeremy Crouch...but shorter....maybe an Aaron Zobrist????

Someone camparing him to a few other Peoria area players? None of those players gets the defensive attention Tyler gets....

Tyler is not the "athletic type" as DSE, Theron Wilson, or even Jordan Prosser are... but he makes his presence known by his smarts.
If guys like Ben Jacobson, Brian Mullins, Aaron Zobrist, Sam Maniscalco, and Justin Dehm can be successes at the DI level while not exactly being the high flying athletic type, then I would say Tyler Les can, too.
One other thought......he may still be growing. I saw Tyler at the Flash Flanagan event and he now seems about equal in height to DSE, which was also about the same size as Dodie Dunson who was standing nearby...so I'd say Tyler might now be a legit 6-2 and he's still a junior in HS.

really??? Has any of those guys been mentioned in the press for shooting over 70% from 3-pt range over the entire 2nd half (15 games) of the season??
                  I suspect not......here's the link...............

Or have any of those other guys you men tion WON THE STATE 3-point shooting competition for his school's Class??

Tyler Les was the Class 3 IHSA 3-Point competition WINNER!!, I'd say that distinguishes him at least a little!!

along the way Tyler beat out Champaign Centennial's James Kinney, North Lawndale's Terry Johnson (who is going to ISU),
                  and numerous other fine shooters.

Tyler is also a much better shooter than any of the other players that were listed.

I knew this would be an active thread....I really don't ever say much in regards if some had D-1 talent,BCS talent or whatever. If they get a scholly then someone thinks they are and that's all that counts...

I've never seen Tyler play, but I'd think it'd be cool if he becomes a Brave just like his dad.

If he's a slightly taller Sam Maniscalco or Jim Les, then why wouldn't he'd be a good player to have?

Heh. Maybe it was destiny that DSE, JP, and Tyler Les were playing on the same team at Flash's event.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know if it's his "dream" to play basketball at Bradley? I'm just wondering if his name might actually hurt his recruiting since some coaches/staffs might not put in the time and effort, thinking he'll end up playing for his dad at Bradley anyway.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

I think both Tyler and Coach Les will be very excited about this opportunity and both will work their tails off to exceed expectations.

                              shooting over 70%
                              and
                              3-Point competition WINNER!!
Has Bradley ever landed a recruit who was the winner of 3-point contests?
