  • All-MVC Team - The New Millennium

If you were putting together the All-MVC team from the last 10 years, who would be your starting five? The criteria is that the player must have played his entire career in the last 10 seasons.

Here's one man's take on it:

At Examiner.com™ we help you excel personal finance, boost income, invest wisely, travel smart, reach financial freedom faster, and enjoy life on a budget.

I'm going to try not to start riots with this one! Just hopefully more national coverage for BU and the MVC!

I can see a little room for disagreement.

You have Coleman, who played pro ball at a low level in Poland, starting ahead of Patrick O'Bryant, an NBA Lottery pick. Maybe Coleman had a better career in the MVC, but he had 4 years compared to 2 years for POB. I also think Randal Falker and Anthony Tolliver were as valuable as Coleman, but they are completely ignored.

And I would also disagree with a 2-time MVC POY Darren Brooks behind a good but not spectacular player in Kent Williams. And I would have Nate Funk higher than honorable mention.

I agree with you DC....I would have Falker starting leaving POB where he is(kind of surprised he's there if you are looking at MVC career)
I would Funk over Williams as well...

Seems like there should be some more great players listed but I just can't think of them now...

Good article Mayhem. I agree with Da Coach. I would have Funk, Brooks or Ahearn ahead of Williams. I know the MVC has always been weak at center but is Coleman really the best we've had? Didn't Wichita St. Have a pretty good one?

How about an All MVC Transfer-out Team...
          Danny Granger ...captain
          Joah Tucker
          Greg Dreiling
          Marcus Arnold
          Maurice Evans

          and All Transfer-in Team
          Larry Bird...captain
          Steve Kuberski
          Jim Les
          Jerry Sloan
          Troy Hudson

          2nd team...
          Cellus
          Curtis Stuckey
          Massive Mike Williams
          Marty Simmons
          Dodie Dunson

ours turn out good....the three NBA'ers on the Transfer-in team (Kuberski, Les, Williams) - how can you argue with them.
I cannot think of another transfer-in at any other Valley school (other than the ones listed) who did as well and ended in the NBA.

...other schools get as many or more transfers, but they turn out flops...
I really shouldn't have bothered to include Arnold, he was a total flop...
gimme some more names if you disagree!!

I believe Paul Miller was the 2006 MVC POY.

Kent Williams helped turn the program around at SIU. He revived the conference with the battles against Creighton and Kyle Korver. Before SIU and CU started their rivalry, the MVC Championship game had slid into ESPN2.

Boogie, you are right about Paul Miller.

I think Randal Falker should replace Coleman, and I think Ben Jacobson should somehow make the 1st team, but I can't tell you who he should replace.

Falker over Coleman AND POB. POB a slight edge over Coleman.

Coleman had a good freshman year, and a very good sophomore year, but I did not think he was as good his junior and senior years, and even his coach turned him into a non-starter his senior season.

Coleman averaged 13 and 9 as a junior, 12 and 9 as a senior. I agree that Falker was good, but he didn't contribute anything as a freshman, where Coleman started every game until halfway through his senior year. Falker was better as a senior, but I'd take Coleman the rest of the way.

As for Miller, he really had one and a half good seasons. True, he was POY, but for a center to average 5.0 rebounds for his career, I need more to list him on that roster. The only season he played more than 23 minutes per game was his senior year. It's a valid argument, but in my opinion, Coleman was a better player.

I agree with Boogie about Kent's impact. I didn't touch on that in the article, but it played a factor. He was an awfully good player, too.

                          Other good transfer ins:

Paul Lusk - Iowa to SIU
Danny Moore - Miami to MSU
Kyle Wilson - Illinois to WSU
Champ Oguchi - Oregon to ISU
Spencer Laurie - Missouri to MSU
