  • I thought I'd dig up this old PIZZA thread because the pizza landscape has changed somewhat - at least in Peoria - ...
among the places already mentioned in this thread - at least one of the Monical's is now closed, and a few of the other places seem to have lost something if popularity is any indication.

but .... I was told by someone of a new pizza place in Peoria that is outstanding and wondered if anyone else has eaten there...

Brienzo's Pizza in Junction City on North Knoxville at Prospect.
Fresh, high quality, individual pizza with Wine and Craft Beer on Tap! Dine-in, Carry-out, Delivery, Catering and Fundraising available! The Best Pizza in Peoria, IL!

...btw - a shout out to the owner/proprietor of Brienzo's - he's a Bradley fan, an intense fan of all local sports down to the high school level, and a great guy!

There's also a new Aurelio's on Sterling -- I haven't tried that one yet, but I have eaten at Aurelio's in the Chicago area and they are outstanding and quite popular up there...with a whole range of incredible Italian items.

I ate at Brienzo's in Junction City this weekend, and the pizza was great! Maybe as good as any I've ever tasted. I recommend highly! They also have outdoor seating and a great wine selection!

          • Too bad the Lou Malnati's closed here in Peoria - and one other Chicago based restaurant (tho not pizza) I'd love to see in Peoria is Portillo's

When I am in St. Louis, I love to get Imo's. Whatever happened to the Imo's that was open in Peoria for a short time? I know it closed, but was it lack of business, or as I suspect, poor location.

              • Aurelio's is in the old Pizza Inn location and has a great lunch buffet. The quality of their lunch buffet pizza is as good as you'll find anywhere for a buffet.

Agatucci's though is hands down the best. Don't forget to use the tiger sauce.

                    • Imo's started in Peoria downtown when I was a teenager. They eventually moved to Pioneer Parkway where they lasted for a year or two. According to a conversation I had with the owner right before the end there was some dispute with Imo's about serving liquor. The owner eventually went his own direction and turned it into Double A's, which eventually moved out to their current location on Willow Knolls, where they continue to operate

                      • I liked going to Imo's before Bradley games when they were downtown.

I really like Aurelio's. That sauce is additive.

I went to Brienzo's the first week they were open since I liked their pizza so much from their mobile pizza oven. The whole experience was so bad that it became comical. It did remind me that I shouldn't go to a new place before they work out the bugs.

Yes, I did, too. I was sorry to see it leave the downtown location. I know everyone has their preferences with pizza, and a lot of people do not like Imo's, but I did like their extremely thin crust pizza.

Imo's Pizza used to have a restaurant in St. Louis right across Market St. from the old Marriott Hotel (it's now the Hilton) where Bradley was always assigned during the MVC Tournament back in the 1990's. That was how I became introduced to their pizza. But they moved that location to a much less pleasant part of town, and we stopped going. I noticed now they have moved back and are located in the lobby level of the Hilton.

                            BEST PIZZA PLACES IN ILLINOIS

it's obviously one person's opinion - and I can't imagine any one person actually sampled thepizzas from all these different places,
but I am gld to see he has Lou Malnati's prominently place right at the top -
but I have to admit a few of those places (Coalfire Pizza, Pequod's) I have never heard of...

The ones on the list of local, Central IL note are..
                            Agatucci's
Mickie's in North Pekin (? don't they also have others in East Peoria & elsewhere)

                            • Bars that have Butch's pizza have as good a pizza as any I have found. Oliver's, just off Propect, used to very good also. Think it used to be the same as the Flamingo downtown across from the police station years ago.
