  • ISU Releases Nonconference Schedule-NO CINCY!

    Where's Cincinnati as promised?
They have backed out and begged a postponement until "next year".
ISU replaces Cincy with Lewis U.
Anyone want to take bets on Cincy buying out and renegging on this one?
I'll bet if new Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin doesn't want to play in B-N this season, he won't
want to do it next year either.
I hope ISU got a decent clause in the contract for renegging or buying out!

    2006-07 Non-Conference Schedule
    N12 vs. SMU*
    N13 at Florida State*
    N14 vs. McNeese State*
    N20 Cal State-Northridge
    N25 at St. John's
    N29 Sacramento State
    D2 Texas-Arlington
    D5 Miami (Ohio)
    D16 at Western Michigan
    D19 Lewis
    D23 at Illinois-Chicago
    F17 TBD

All in all, save for the loss of Cincy due to reasons beyond their control, I applaud ISU for going after a better schedule.
They have a couple good midmajors and St. Johns, Florida State, and SMU. No more Alcorn State!

Will ISU play at SMU in the '07-08 season?

I doubt it. The SMU game is part of the 3 day, 4 team Colonial Classic in Tallahassee. ISU plays SMU the first day, Nov 12, the plays the host team, Florida State the next day, Nov. 13.
(see the 2nd paragraph of the article linked)

I don't understand WHY they would do that. Yea, ISU has gotten better on paper... but I think it would be easier for Cincy to try and pick up a road win this year than next.

I suspect they will try and get out completely.

        Chumps.

DB was hoping to get an opportunity to root against the Redbirds in person.....right DB?

            Good news for ISU

If Cinci doesn't reneg completely I see this as good for ISU. Both teams should be much stronger the following year (if these recruits are as good as everyone says) and a win or competitive game by ISU should mean much more.

In all honesty, ISU probably would have had their a*s handed to them this year.

I don't think the ISU people can get away with this.
All last year we heard about their vaunted home and home with Cincinnati, and how it was a scheduling masterpiece.

Now it simply doesn't materialize, and we are fed the spin that it has been delayed a year.
              Baloney.
My bet it that it never happens.
I think it was never part of the plan and this is all just spin.
ISU just takes the guarantee money and runs, they aren't going to get Cincy in "RA".

I realize this is your board and I may get scolded for this but.........

If you honestly think Porter, Zenger, and ISU would rather take the $$$ and NOT play the game at home against a BCS school, then you are a fool. I'll just leave it at that.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

No, I think PM wants to play Cincy, but
I meant that Cincy doesn't want to keep their end of the bargain.

                    Oh, OK.

I agree with you. I don't think they want the game either apparently. Unfortunately, there isn't much PM or ISU could do about it. Worse yet, ISU can't really say anything that could risk them cancelling it all together next year. The timing was terrible also.

The whole thing just sucks. I'm not a Huggins fan, but I think if he or Andy Kennedy were still there, the game would go as scheduled. Cronin appears to be a sissified little beeyatch.

I think things like this happen more than we realize. I have heard of teams cancelling or delaying games because of scheduling conflicts before. I just can't recall it happening with Bradley's schedule, but it might have. My guess is that there is nothing sinister here, just the new people at Cincinnati trying to rework their schedule.

it is my understanding that most scheduling contracts in the non-conference games have buy-out clauses.don't think cincy is afraid to play isu anywhere.

I dont think they are "afraid" to play us either, however they might be hesitant to play in Normal...and who knows, maybe they are hesitant to play other road games too? My rationale there is that nobody in Bearcatland knows what kind of team Cincy is gonna have this year. New head coach, many new faces, very little experience. Only 3 guys on paper with any real shot of legit playing time, and 1 of those guys was ineligible last year. They are a team with one question mark after another and are likely to be very vulnerable early on as they try to find their identity. Its possible they dont want to risk a road loss to a team from a good conference that would take advantage of that vulnerability. I could be wrong on all that of course, but I simply dont believe they postponed due to a "schedule conflict". Just my 2 cents.

Any way you look at it, the situation sucks. Our schedule is better than last year, but it would be much better with Cincy on it. Im not surprised at all that they are postponing. I was actually prepared for that, but its still upsetting. I wont be surprised one bit if they buy the game out next year either. Im fully expecting them to mail us a check and be done with it. If Cincinnati ever sets foot in Redbird Arena, Ill be shocked.

But thanks to you Braves fans who also think this situation with Cincy sucks And while we are on the subject of scheduling, just wanted to say congrats on a really nice non-con schedule for you guys. DePaul, Mich St, Iowa St, Rutgers, UIC and possibly Illinois are all great games to have. Go get em!

$25,000!! That's what ISU comes out ahead on this deal!!

An article in today's Cincy Enquirer give some more explanation (spin) on this bail out by Cincinnati.

It says their asked out of the game in 2006-2007 because the opportunity to play Temple came up, and they wanted the Temple game more.

It also says the Temple game will be on Dec. 9, but then ISU replaced the Cincy game with the game vs. D-II Lewis on Dec. 19. So couldn't Cincinnati also have come on a different date?
It's not like the Redbird Arena wouldn't have been available.

Lastly, the article says Cincinnati will have to pay ISU $25,000
to delay the game until 2007-2008.
So I think it is clear already that Cincinnati would rather pay big bucks than play this game.
I don't hesitate to think for a second they'll buy out together.

Cincinnati continues to land top recruits. It is being announced today that they have received a committment from a top 6-3 combo guard/shooting guard from Texas.
Larry Davis (Class of 2007) averaged
                              14 points
                              6 rebounds
                              4.5 steals!
                              and shot 42% from 3-pt
                              as a junior last year.
They should be good in 2007
