  • Bulls win in overtime vs. Celtics

Great game- Bulls at Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
Now 97-97 and going to overtime. Derrick Rose has 36 points.

Sorry, but I have to say, the officials have done everything they can, including calling a couple phantom fouls on the Bulls to help the Celtics win. So I don't feel too good about this game. But the Bulls have played great.

If KG doesnt come back the Bulls can win this series. Rose tied Jabar for rooking scoring in a playoff game debut and hit some really big shots late the game. If Tyrus Thomas hits jump shots who knows how far they Bulls can go.
      Can we start winning soon?

        Derek Rose...unbelievable
Gloria: Who's side are you on?
Jay: She's my daughter, you're my wife. Let's remember what's important, there's a football game on today

amen....the foul with 2.6 seconds left in regulation to allow Boston to potentially seal the win (but instead a miss tied it and sent it into OT) was a complete phantom, as Noah blocked the shot cleanly...
then the same ref, Bennett Salvatore, also whistled Rose for foul #6, but the Bulls still won.
the east-coast press of course felt the refs didn't do enough...

check out this comment by CBSSports...
"It was a hideously officiated game..."

Seriously? I thought Noah hammered him with the body and it was clearly a foul. Del Negro didn't even argue the call. Just because you get all ball doesn't mean there's not a foul.

That said, it was still a poorly officiated game from the 10-15 minutes of game action I got to catch. My biggest beef was with the out-of-bounds call against the Bulls at the end of overtime when the ball clearly went off of Pierece. Good thing Allen missed the jumper that followed.

You've got to be joking. There was nothing clean about that and it was the right call.

I disagree...with 2 seconds left, it has to be a real foul...not something ticky tack as the shot is blocked....
and I think even the Celtics fans know they are lucky they got that call...
I agree there was some contact, but here's evidence Noah did NOT get him with the body as a lot of people claimed...Noah's body was a couple feet away!

                I agree with this assessment...
"Noah said. "There was a little bit of contact. I'm just happy he missed the shot."
Pierce had an 18-foot jumper blocked from the side by Noah. It was a close call,
but replays showed that Noah probably hit Pierce's wrist before touching the ball."

Thank you so much for Eric Peterson’s story, “Left without a home.” The story broke my heart and gave me continued empathy for those who just need a little extra “hand up” and not a “hand...

                and this one....
"The Bulls needed a defensive stop and appeared to get it when Noah
aggressively double-teamed Pierce and appeared to block his jump-shot
attempt. Noah, though, was called for a foul with 2.6 seconds left."

In that situation, how many times have you see the ref just swallow the whistle....this should have been one of them.

there was also a play near the end of overtime where the refs awarded an out of bounds play to Boston,
when replays showed it was not blocked and was off Pierce.

"The refs missed a call at the end of overtime when Pierce lost the ball out of
bounds with 3.7 seconds left. When that play happened, though, I thought
Noah blocked the shot out of bounds. The replay showed otherwise."

Noah hammered him...FOUL. I think he was surprised becuase it was late and they usually don't call those but it was so obvious it HAD to becalled.

The OOB call the ref was clearly out of position and should have asked for help.....

                  Nice win Bulls.

And that picture proves it...FOUL. How does a jump shooter go backwards so far without gettting hammered. A single frame does not prove no contact..heck you could argue he didn't get the wrist either from that pic. He gets him with the body and its why he's almost bent in two as the picture shows..."simple" wrist contact wouldn't cause that....

T that proves absolutely nothing. That is an angle trick that you are trying to pull with that one. Noah could be going one way while Pierce is going the other but the angle of the photo makes it look like they are going straight towards the camera and they are feet apart. That's just not the case. Get a picture during the block not after and maybe you have something here. Do you think we are all two years old and can't think for ourselves? I provided the video and there is clear cut contact between the two. His shoulder hit pierce and he slapped his wrist...in no way was that a "phantom" call. It was so hard they HAD to call it w/out getting backlash. I'm sure they usually do let things like that go at the end for the dramatic thrilling finish but when it's that blatant it can't be ignored. Stupid bone headed play by Noah and he is lucky Pierce missed the free throws.

I do agree about the out of bounds though...that was some crap. Called it out on the bulls when no one even touched it...just slipped out of Pierce's hand. Now that was phantom.

                        Lots of bad calls,
                        most favoring the Celtics
immediately after a Bull favored call...there'd be a very quick make up call

Anybody watch the game on ESPN?
all they could talk about was how great Rondo was...when the real story was Rose.
Fortunately they had the game on CSN and i didn't need to put up with the insane mancrush that ESPN has on Boston

sure they gave credit to Rose once the bulls won, but until then! jeez

Bulls proved that they can beat the Celts without KG (a lot of teams can) and will be a tough out this series, but this being the NBA more times then not teams play up to their record, especially the lower seeds, and I predict that the Bulls will win this series and get pummled in the next round.

BTW....Have you ever seen a rookie point guard and his first playoff game play with so much focus and confidance? If the Bulls ever gets another superstar and a servicable big, watch out! I hope they are looking at creating some cap space for the following year.
