  • Dave Reynolds 4/17/09 article on Jake Eastman

Nice article by Dave Reynolds in today's (4/17/09) PJ Star

Les: We've got a chance to be special"

That picture in the PJ Star looks like it's a couple years old. Jake looks a lot more mature now, and has lost the braces.

Here is an article from his hometown media, with current pictures and videos-

    Videos-
Coverage of sports including baseball, basketball, boys volleyball, field hockey, football, girls basketball, girls golf, girls lacrosse, girls soccer, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, volleyball and wrestling.

Nice find, Da Coach....great to see all that extra coverage from his hometown...they have great reporters
there like Jim Mattson and Lee Hall doing some very fine coverage of their locals.

But note precisely WHO Jake credits for the final decision being BRADLEY!!

"I took a visit about a few weeks ago," Eastman said..
"They get about 11,000 a game. All the fan support, they are there for you
and everything. I'm real excited about it."

He took one visit and made the call...he loved Bradley because of the FANS.....people like you and me who cheered loudly that night
when he was there, and who walked up to him, greeted him, and chatted with him...
Coach Les had the most to do with the kid's decision, but I am happy to see Jake credit the fan support at Bradley, too!

Not that it matters..he signed...but the nite he was here we had less the HALF are normal crowd. I specifically told him that when I spoke with him briefly while he was in line geting a bee...uh er soda.

When Roberts hit the 75 foot jump shot we yelled..."that could be you n front of 11,000 screaming fans...he looked with a half smile but his Mom had was smiling cheek to cheek.

Jake Eastman just set his own high school's all time career scoring record, finishing with over 1300 points as a 4-year starter.

        Does everyone remember this story.....

"Jordan Prosser became the all-time leading scorer in Eureka boys basketball
        history ..
Prosser, a senior, scored 32 on his way to 1,353 career points, five more
        than previous record-holder Chris Martin."

so as prolific of a scorer as Jordan Prosser is, Eastman is right about at the same level as his school's career leader and scoring over 1300 in his career.
Recall, Eastman plays for Douglas Freeman HS in Richmond, VA. The schools he plays against are not pansies, they are top schools.
Eastman's team ended the season ranked #5 in the state in the largest school classification, and they got knocked out of the State Tournament by the undefeated #1 ranked Petersburg team - with Jake scoring 28 in the loss.
In fact....Jake's team finished the season 21-5, but FOUR of those losses were to teams who were in the Final Four of the Class AAA (largest class) state tournament.
