  • Lineups/Minutes for 2009

Clearly this is all ridiculous speculation at this point, but I posted this in another thread and it got me thinking about minutes per player at each position. Here's what I've come up with...

(This will be a hoot to look at come November/December...!)

    @ the 5: SS for 20, WE for 15, AT for 5
@ the 4: TB for 19, JP for 12, MK for 6, WE for 3
    @ the 3: AW for 30, CR for 10
@ the 2: SM for 20, DD for 10, CR for 5, JE for 5
    @ the 1: EM for 22, SM for 13, DD for 5

Per player it breaks down to:
    SM: 33
    AW: 30
    EM: 22
    SS: 20
    TB: 19
    WE: 18
    CR: 15
    DD: 15
    JP: 12
    MK: 6
    JE: 5
    AT: 5

Makes you realize how tight it will be to get everyone some minutes. If/when CR has the breakout that I'm expecting and hoping for, I don't know where those minutes come from...

Interesting Jeff. My one quabble--I think Eddren McCain will play more than 22 minutes a game. It is obvious he is the point guard of the current and future. Its part of the reason Norris left. I dont see him playing any less than 27 minutes--minimum. Maybe take a few away from Sam M.

It will be tough thats for sure. I dont see Milos getting minutes or Thompson so you have 11 more "inside" minutes to go around.

Fewer for SS and TB, more for CR.
Here's the deal, Wyoming for football, Bradley for basketball.

Prosser will be starting by Christmas. I think he will end up passing up Taylor Brown, and the competition will be good for both.

I would think that TB will receive most of the minutes at the 4 spot. I see SS shouldering the load for the 1st 1/2 of the season at the 5 while WE builds up his conditioning and psyche. I also see us substituting more from the 1-3 position and AW getting some time at the 2 as match ups dictate. I really believe teams will have a hard time playing zones against us and if we get any inside presence at all we'll be hard to stop. The problem will be our inside D and foul problems. I sure hope AT can step up over the summer and start proving that he belongs.

Also, WE will see 0 minutes at the 4! Every minute of his will be needed at the 5!

AW, CR, DD are all interchangeable at the 2-3 position.

I am still thinking......TB needs to be our 3 and a little 4....and WE,SS at the 5...JP at the 4...but have WE at the 4 when SS is the 5 .....and the one on the right was on the left

              Here's my try:

              @ the 5: SS for 18, WE for 16, JP for 6
@ the 4: TB for 18, JP for 12, CR for 6, WE for 2, MK for 2
              @ the 3: AW for 24, CR for 14, DD for 2
@ the 2: SM for 16, DD for 14, AW for 8, JE for 2
              @ the 1: EM for 22, SM for 16, DD for 2

Per player it breaks down to:
              SM: 32
              AW: 32
              EM: 22
              CR: 20
              SS: 18
              TB: 18
              WE: 18
              DD: 18
              JP: 18
              MK: 2
              JE: 2

It's fun to play around with the minutes. I find myself really wanting to give more mins to CR and EM. I have this strange feeling we'll invariably see Roberts at the 4 for stretches during many games. Not saying it's a bad thing. Gotta have more than 2 people slotted at every position, otherwise you're saying those 2 players will never ever sit out at the same time. I know nothing about MK or JE other than what I've read on here. I'd like to increase their mins but we can't play 6 at a time!

Agreed that I would like to see TB at the 3, with SM/AW at the 1/2. It would be dynamic with SM-AW-TB-WE-SS. I just expect that TB will be pushed to shoulder a lot of the 4-role.

I know we're all worried about giving "too many" minutes to JP, JE, MK... but think about how much EM played this year. TB also got decent minutes throughout. I think thats what I'm hoping to see from JP and JE respectively.

I think we're learning two things... nobody has any idea, and it's going to be interesting!

I wish you were making the PT decisions !!!

TB did the best job passing the ball from the outside to an inside guy, he did it well in exhibition, it's a more natural skill for him than any of our other guards.

Unfortunately, I think TB at the 3 is a dream with the way our coaching staff is likely to evaluate our experienced guards.

I will be satisfied if CR is a 3, and we play anyone taller at the 4 and 5. I love the talk of JP at the 4, but it seems all too often that skillset winds up at the 5

NOTE: in every season, the total average of players is greater than 200 minutes per game. this is because of overtimes and players missing games for whatever reason. you probably have about 215-220 minutes per game to throw around normally.

I would be worried with AW getting 30 min right off the bat...save those feet for later in the season...

Gives CR a few more minutes! Nothin' wrong with that.

25 minutes for EM SM AW CR and WE

                            8 for SS
                            2 for AT and MK
If JP gets more minutes then TB then there is something about his game that I have no idea about. I also bet that we'll see at least 10 mpg from SS. I do like the way you spread out the guard play though.

I just believe that in D-1 basketball the bigs really take a pounding and you need to be both physically and mentally prepared. I just do not believe that JP will be able to give us those minutes until possibly much later in the season.
