DC (and everyone)
I don't think Peoria is a small city (it's not Chicago sure, but it's not a one-horse college town), and I don't see a 1-5 scale as congruent with a grading scale.. If I were rating him on a grading scale, I'd give him a B+/A- because he has shown constant improvement and growth in several facets of the game.. But if I'm taking 1-5, with 5 being Coach K/Tom Izzo legend territory, I think I'm reasonable when I give him a 3.25 to a 3.5. I like how Les recruits, I like that half time adjustments more often than not deal with the big issues in the first half and have the team in position to seal a win, I like that he tailors the team to its strengths, and I love that this team can compete and win against anyone (figuratively) in America on our home court.. But I don't like how he substitutes, I don't like how he calls timeouts, and I don't like how many of our players struggle with requisite fundamentals into their 3rd and 4th years (I'm thinking particularly of rebounding)... There's a few subtleties to the game that he will need to improve, and he will need to have us on top of the valley a couple of times in the next two to four years to earn a 4 from me. And I would say that a 4 would be an A to A+ if we want to put it on a grading scale. To be fair, I think he's in a tight competition for the 2nd best coach in the valley at this point in time. I want Les to succeed, and I'm behind him, so I hope BU goes out and wins big next year.
