  • Why the Knicks are So Bad

Because they offer $30 million to every mediocre player on the market.
They have become the bastion of medicrity
Having found a cheaper and more enthusiastic alternative in DeShawn Stevenson, the Washington Wizards said Monday they won't match the New York Knicks' offer sheet for restricted free agent Jared Jeffries.

The Knicks have a team payroll over $40 million more than anyone else. But what's money?

It seems to me that Isiah wants to lose his job. You can't make me believe that he really truly thinks that Jared Jeffries is the man that can take this team over the hump, well I guess the aren't even to the hump, I guess I should say out of the dungeon. With his recent personnel moves it makes me think more and more that Isiah has NO FRIGGIN' CLUE what he is doing. Time will tell, but I'm glad that I'm not a Knick fan.

The NBA has a "luxury tax" which taxes a team dollar-for-dollar for any payroll amount over $65 million. So, since the Knicks are over $120 million currently, the $6 million a year offer they made to Jared Jeffries will actually cost them $12 million a year (an additional $6 million a year in extra luxury tax). In fact, if they do sign Jeffries, their payroll will be at $130 million a year, but they will have to pay the league an extra $65 million tax, for a total of $195 million! Only a couple other teams are over the $65 million threshhold, and no team is within about $40 million of the Knicks.

The Wizards chose not to match the Knicks' offer to Jeffries, even though they have plenty of cash and room under the salary cap. Instead, they signed DeShawn Stevenson for a lot less money.
