It's all about winning. If UK really wants Calipari to bring in crooks and hoodlums into their school and basketball program like he did at Memphis just so they can win, all the power to them.

Calipari accepts Kentucky Job

UK = the Yankees of baseball. I wonder how it feels to be fired and then learn that the guy replacing you will be making 3 times a year as much as you. Gillespie made $2 million a year and Calipari at $6 million. Course Gillespi could possibly get the job at Memphis and make nearly that amount.
Oh, and the Kentucky rivals page currently has about 9,800 visitors right now at 1am eastern lol. The new record was set at 22,215 on March 30th when Gillespie was fired. It may have been set today when Calipari accepted but it doesn't say. If just 40 of those 22,000 were boosters and each one donated $1 million, I think that speaks volumes on just how much they could of raised the stakes at KU to get Calipari.

Originally posted by tornadothis column expresses some serious concerns as to whether Kentucky really needs Calipari's shady recruiting tactics,
and his tendency to recruit thugs who are constantly in touble with the law.
he only recaps a tiny fraction of all the thuggery that's gone on there....Joey Dorsey all by himself was on the police blotter more than most entire DI conferences...
and if you check page 2 of the column, it reminds of Calipari's UMass squad (1996 Final Four) that had to vacate their entire tournament results due to NCAA violations.
Then, it happened again with Shawne Williams at Memphis!!
I sure am grateful nothing like this ever happens at Bradley......
Right Daniel...
Does anybody know if Star has any jobs available?

I am betting that soon after Calipari has his contract signed, several of the top recruits he had secured for Memphis switch their allegiance to Kentucky. Most reputable coaches when switching schools would not try to bring players and recruits with them. Calipari will.

ALOT of coaches bring recruits and players with them. That isn't new. I see nothing wrong with it.

He's one of the few people that could have made me root for Kansas last year... At least Bill Self is decently clean."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

While Calipari is as dirty as they come in college hoops today, I find it hard to dislike him on a personal level. I do like that he took two non-BCS teams to title games (and we all know what he had to stoop to in order to make that happen), and that he tried to stick up for the non-BCS schools when it came to scheduling and getting into the tournament. It will be interesting to see how he schedules and what his thoughts on mid-majors are now that he's at the helm of one of college basketball's elite programs.
I think it begs the ultimate question though about integrity vs. winning. At BU, would you trade what appears to be a program of true 'student athletes' and for the most part good kids for one like Memphis - Where kids are on the take, off-the-court issues are overlooked, graduation is non-existent, package deals are the norm, and you win 30+ games, get a 1 or 2 seed, and compete for national titles? I don't think it's as easy of a question to answer as some think.Onward and Upward!

It was the same stuff that went into building Kansas's national title team...the first team ever to win a title while on probation.

I think people see Calipari, his look, the way his teams plays, the "Memphis persona", and then looks at the TYPE of players he has and assumes they are all crooks, on the take, bad guys.
Sometimes perception isn't reality. I never saw the recent Memphis teams being out of control, running-gunning, undisciplined guys. They played very hard, were well schooled, and disciplined as heck. Yes, Joey Dorsey was a nut but a lot of team has a loose cannon type guy.
I think Calipari is as good as they come.
