  • NCAA Tourney officiating

The last few games have really been nice to watch because I believe the refs are not trying to be part of the show but are acting as care takers of the game. I wish the MVC allowed the physical nature that these games. Basketball is a contact sport and it is played so much better when refs know just how much to allow.

I've noticed quite a few of the "Valley refs" reffing the tourney. In particular, I've seen Higgins, Sanzere and, believe it or not, Janssen.

I think I saw 2 guys in each of the games (so 4 of the 6) yesterday that had done a Bradley game(s) this season.

I've watched a majority of the games as well. You can see a clear difference in officiating with regards to physical play. Every once in awhile a referee will call a hand check up top that is rather comical with regards to some of the non-calls in the paint. I think the term I hear is "nickel-dimer"...lol??¦in the MVC all those "nickel-dimer" would add up to some serious cash??¦perhaps referees think they can turn the economy around this way??¦

I'm a fan of physical play, so I like the way a lot of these games have been called so far.

Did you see the blind ref that was doing the BU/ISU game?

I'm guessing that Villanova (I like how they never allow a clean layup while "playing small")would have to forefit every game due to lack of players after MVC officiating would foul out every player by halftime.

At one time during the Louisville-Michigan State game, I wondered if the NCAA was using football officials as there was a pretty good tackle in the first half.

I always believe in the concept, no harm no foul, it just needs to be consistent on both ends, I sure hope we get decent officials for tomorrow nights game, I would rather have a crew from outside of the valley.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the same guys from last Wednesday's game.

Tom O"Neill is good, the other 2 not good plus we should not have officials from our conf. as you don"t want someone complaining about them favoring us.

You have also seen Tom O'Neil, Steve Skiles, and Steve Olsen, do sweet 16 or elite 8 games..
All of thes guys regulary do Valley games.
Evidently The NCAA sees something in their ability that BradleyFans do not, as there are constant complaints about the quality of The Valley refs.

Of course we have NOT seen Dave Draucker in the tournament.

Grassman it is obvious that they are calling the game differently for these games. They are under a much greater microscope for the NCAA tourney and they probably check their EGO at the door. IMO the games during the NCAA have had a lot more contact then a Valley game and a lot less whistles.
