  • Mac Koshwal/AAU wrap up/AAU Nationals

Boys to Men senior, Nayal Mac Koshwal had a very fine tournament at the Las Vegas Reebok Big Time AAU Event.
Recall that Nayal first entered high school in Canada in 2000 (where he had emigrated from Sudan), then in 2002 came to the US and played in Chicago at Chicago Julian High School under head coach Loren Jackson. Things got suspicious when Mac moved in with Coach Jackson who also became his legal guardian.
Koshwal was ruled ineligible to play high school basketball by the Chicago Public league due to discrepancies in his transcripts and age documentation, after the CPL received complaints that Mac was way older than allowed.
Since then he has attended Boys to Men and is now classified as a senior, although it is suspected he is well over 20 years of age.

A new story by Mike Pegram (Premium article writer for Indiana Rivals) tells us the whole story on Mac.

He is 6'9" and strong, and did an good job at the Reebok Big Time averaging a double double and having one game of 25pts, 14 rebs.
His Chicago Jaguars went 6-1, and many observers said that Mac greatly improved his ranking in the eyes of the observers there.
Look for him to move higher than the #75 he presently rates in the Rivals 150.

He is being recruited by many top programs, but has yet to get a solid offer. I think the answer of why can be seen in this statement by Mac.
"So far I have DePaul, Kansas, Georgetown, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Indiana too," said Koshwal. "Of those schools on that list I am going to try to take my five visits but I need to get in my ACT test first"

So he is going on 21, has been in high school for SIX years already, and still hasn't gotten a qualifying score on his ACT.
He is the top priority for DePaul this year, though.

So if he is this old (and good enough) can he go straight to the NBA draft? His college prospects don't look too good

Koshwal's AAU team, the Chicago Jaguars, are in Orlando this weekend,
and are playing well at the "AAU Nationals" (17U/Junior Boys)
[not sure how Mac Koshwal can play on this team if it is high school/17U]

They won their opening game 68-50 over a Pittsburgh AAU team (Pittsburgh Team Adidas), then they defeated the Minneapolis Icemen 66-48.
They then beat the top AAU team from New York, the Long Island Lightning, last night 64-56 last night in the final (7PM) game in their pool play to win their pool (Pool A of 35 pools).

The Illinois Wolves are also there in Pool D, and went 2-1 beating NFBC Jacksonville Jazz 56-44, and Atlanta All Stars 49-43, but losing to Massachusetts Dunbar 56-48. They won their pool however with their 2-1 record because the only other 2-1 team was the Atlanta team that they beat.

OJ Mayo's D1 Greyhounds went 3-0 in Pool I, with Chris Head's Team IL Hawks finishing 2-1 in that pool, losing 63-59 to Mayo's team.

Other Illinois teams (Rising Stars, Illinois Heat, Team Illinois) did not do well.

The Jaguars have a new "bookends" PF who plays with Koshwal named Djibril Coulibaly who is said to be coming to Boys to Men this fall.
Coulibaly is 6'8" and had 14 pts against the Lightning, and Koshwal had 13 pts, 10 rebs against the Lightning.
Also guard, Horace Blue from Chicago Julian may be at BTMA.

By the way, here is a link to the bracket for the Championship in Orlando

In the 4 point win by OJ Mayo's team over Team Illinois Hawks, Bloomington's DMitri Riggs had a fine game and impressed Illinois' Tracy Webster who was watching.
