  • Oakland files formal protest with CIT officials

According to the Chicago Tribune (another great write-up from John Mullin). Sounds like sour grapes from Greg Kampe.

    Onward and Upward!

Anyone know what could come of that? The radio crew had some observations on that issue...

Just saw this on the Oakland board. Kampe is only 25 years old. He'll learn that there is nothing that can be done in a situation like this. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last time a team loses a game like this. Heartbreaking and devestating, yes! But we've been on that end many times too.

I saw the WEEK news video 4 times at least with the last one in slo-mo and it appeared it was 2 steps and he chucked it up. I wish they would have kept the camera on the celebration a little longer. That was some shot!

I think you missread it. He has coached at Oakland for 25 years....he's 53....and he's doing everything for his kids. I don't have a problem with that.

He may well have been the most agitated and hot-tempered coach I've ever seen at Carver. He was really unfair to his players..
Here's the deal, Wyoming for football, Bradley for basketball.

Is the rule after picking up the dribble two steps are allowed and the ball has to be shot before the third step lands?

Don't players frequently take three steps in the NBA?

Can somebody clarify? (I know I should be embarassed for asking)

I watched the video on TV many times and the shot looked good. If there was a question in my mind it might be did the clock start on time and did CR shoot it on time?

You are allowed One and one half steps. To make it easy it means you can take one step and when your second foot touches ground you have traveled. When your second foot is in the air, that is your half step until it touches the floor. Don't think that was an issues last night. I think the officials were checking to see if it left CR's hand before the horn. Lets get one tomorrow night. Go BU

Yeah, I could have sworn somebody wrote 25 years old, but I probably misread it.

I have no problem with the protest. Anyone who loses a big game in that manner will be upset for quite awhile. But like I said, it usually does not manner in the long run as I have never seen a result overturned in any sport (outside of disqualification in the Olympics).

Really? That's too bad. Of course we don't know how he is behind the scenes. Maybe he also gives a lot of encouragement, just that he gets wound up in game situations.

I thought Doug Wojcik of Tulsa got pretty animated toward his players during the CBI final here last year, especially during that early first half timeout. His face looked like he was ready to kill someone!

But of course nothing beats hot-tempered more than our good friends Larry Eucstacy and Bob "The General" Knight!

I am sorry, but if this game had been reversed, and Bradley lost on such a shot, and Jim Les announced he was filing a protest, I am certain he would be assailed here by many posters.
There is exactly 0% chance this outcome will be overturned, so he comes out of this looking like it is a futile effort to save face, and a massive bunch of sour grapes.
I feel a bit sorry for Kampe and the Oakland kids for how they lost to Bradley, and their previous loss to No. Dakota State, but the coach should have held his protest, and moved on. It does nothing for his kids.
                          Just my opinion.

By the way, I have watched the end of the game dozens of times, and there was absolutely nothing irregular or wrong with the clock management, or the officials decision. It was a legal, good shot, albeit an unlikely one.

Gary Williams is right up there with in your face especially if you are on the bench.

I don't disagree with you there DC. All I'm saying is that is his prerogative so let him do it. It doesn't really hurt anything. Nothing will become of it and it will be forgotten.
