  • Creighton loses to Kentucky in the NIT

Creighton lead late in the game, but Kentucky rallied at the end for a 65-63 win at the Qwest center in Omaha. Booker Woodfox had a 3-point shot that would have won the game for Creighton rim out at the buzzer.

    Box score-

    Attendance was 16,984.

    Story-

Bradley is now the only MVC school still playing!

That's a shame Creighton lost because they played an excellent game. However, a couple of mental lapses by P'Allen Stinnett and Creighton missing five of their last six free throws ultimately did them in.

I was thinking about this while watching that game, but win or lose, the fact that Creighton would have at best "only" won by two points (or a outright loss) would make no difference in the eyes of the BCS "elite". They will think that this is the best that the top team in the Valley could do against a middle tier SEC team, on their home court no less. And therefore, this further validates the "terrific" job the NCAA selection committee did in keeping so many solid mid-major teams out of the NCAA tournament.

So in short, win or lose, this game tonight did nothing to change the current state of which teams will get into the NCAA tournament anytime in the near future. And the fact that two of the four mid-major at-large teams did make the Sweet 16 further validates that the few mid-majors chosen were the "only" correct ones.

So good luck next year to any Valley team that finishes in second place and fails to win the Valley tournament. Maybe if the second place team beats North Carolina, they MIGHT be lucky to get in!

That's too bad for Creighton, the MVC and their fans. Woulda been nice to stick one on an "evil empire" like Kentucky.

Absolutely! But you got to make free throws, and Creighton did not at the end.

I said it in another thread last night, but at some point the Valley teams have to win these opportunity games on their own floor!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Not surprised.. P'Allen has been a bit of a head case.. Which is a shame for CU because he's such a fantastic talent. If he could put it all together, he'd be the force of the Valley.
Here's the deal, Wyoming for football, Bradley for basketball.

There is also discussion by the Creighton fans that Stinnett refused to participate in the post-game handshakes after the tough loss to Kentucky.
