Question about Tyler Les

If this has been covered I apologize. My question is, if Tyler were to come to BU would we have to use a scholarship or with his Dad at the school does he get a free ride? If someone knows for sure please share with us. Thanks

The general rule (and I think this is an IRS rule) is that when a University provides free tuition the employee must add the cost of tuition to his income and only pays tax on the economic benefit of the education. Thus, a $20,000 education might actually cost $4-7,000 in taxation. The room & board is not covered by the university. I'm sure BU still adheres to this policy.

I have heard that full time employees of Bradley can send their children to BU tuition-free. They are still responsible for housing costs, meals, and most expenses like books, etc. Many schools do the same thing. So it would be possible for Coach Les' son to attend Bradley tuition-free, and not use up one of the maximum allowable 13 scholarships.

Myself and 6 siblings went to BU tuition free because our father worked there. Used to be that you had to have a certain # of years there, but I think that has changed since then. My sister played volleyball and softball for BU and they did not use up any scholarship $ for her.

Yep, your kids get a free ride on credit tuition if you are a full time (32+ hours) employee here. It's slightly pro-rated the first 4 employment years but still saving $20+ thousand dollars during that time. If you are a full time employee and want to take classes, then you can have 7 credit hours a semester for $35 total. You really can't beat it if you have 2 or 3 kids that come here with a parent working here. Save you $2-3 hundred thousand. Can buy a spanking new house with that lump of spare change.

Can't kids also go to other schools on tuition exchange? I know a lot of people did that as well. Not that Tyler Les would be he could go to Drake or Trinity in TX (among others) tuition free.

As I said earlier, all 7 of us in my family attended BU tuition free! Saved my parents a bundle of $! Just wish that when I went back for another degree, that I could have been picked up again

Yes. But it's not as easy. You must also have a parent's kid from that school who wants to come to Bradley in an "exchange" (unless things have changed). This also works the other way around as well.

Yeah. I thought so. Thanks for clarifying it. I recently talked to someone who worked at one of these schools about this--they have a kid going to Rice on this exchange thing.
